I have a renovation project I want to finish off so: Call it Skinner!

DU is a black hole for time right now, I sit down to read a thread and before I know it an hour is gone, I have to pee, my mouse is gently smoking and my butt is getting numb.

Actually I just got the AC unit for my renovation so this is a great time for DU to become less attractive for me. Now that it has come to Hillary vs Trump I already know what I'm going to do and I've already said my piece about both of them. My Trump OP got 76 recs and a lot of laughs but it's like whacking a vulgar short fingered orange pinata with no blindfold, hardly a challenge.

So yeah, call it Skinner and let me get some shit done around here.

And to all my DU friends and frenemies let me say Happy Trails to you...

I like to sleep cool and cooling the entire place is expensive for six months of the year so I'm turning the smallest room into my bedroom with a portable AC unit to cool it when I sleep and I can let the whole house unit loaf at a higher temperature to save power.

Originally wanted a mini split unit but I paid about a nickel on the dollar for this thing at a yard sale and it cools nicely so I figure the difference in cost will pay for a lot of electricity and the bulkier unit I'll just live with.

I'm going to end up redoing all the counter tops, kitchen and bathroom, I have white Corian to replace the aged and swelling Formica ones, more yard sale stuff. Haven't decided on a floor treatment yet, probably whatever hardwood I can get a really good deal on. I know someone with the installation tools and the sander for finishing.

Have a A/C company #3 coming today LOL- Condensers got destroyed by the hail storm two months ago...Insurance is only paying to "rebuild" both units since you can't get R22 condensers anymore-

Fuckem, I'm taking the rest of the depreciation from the roof and everything left over from fence, personal items destroyed, window, etc to get a complete new system...

So will go from R22 that is going the way of the dodo-bird to 410a and from my existing 12 SEER to at least 16...

Will see if it ends up being Trane, Lennox, Rheem or Carrier....hopefully for under 10K

Some of the brand name mini split units have by far the highest feedback ratings, regular central AC does not do well, lots of negative feedback on them.

I'd like a heat pump, my central AC was built in 1984 and still blows out sub 40 degree air and it's a more or less sealed unit so until it breaks it's staying put.

Good luck with getting cool without spending too much..

Carrier, 12 years old....They are still working great for the most part- Except the coils took a beating so some have good dents that are limiting the flow thus will make the compressor work harder. So, they may fail next week or in 8 years...

Thanks for the luck!

They looked a bit like they could be on the front of a modern heavy truck, nice looking. Oh and they are bigger than a lower SEER unit. More fin area to dissipate or absorb heat..
