2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumCongratulations to Hillary supporters!
I have been a supporter of Bernie and at times not a nice one!
I have been rude at times and I let emotion influence my comments more than I should have. For that I apologize.
Hillary is no doubt smart and experienced. IMO she is a little far to the right for our nominee but the people have made their decision.
I am happy we have the first woman nominee after having the first black nominee in 2008! This is a great event!
Hillary is 1000 times better than Trump or any other GOP candidate. And anyone here who does not believe it really should not be here. There is a big difference between not liking Hillary and saying she is no better that Trump. Trump is dangerous and would be a disaster and an embarassment for this country.
So lets move on to electing Hillary and destroying Trump!
Enjoy your evening and celebrating your candidates big win!

(4,762 posts)Bernie fought a hard and impressive battle and moved the needle far to the left in a powerful way. I have always adored him and although he's made me angry in recent months I can let it go and I hope he supports the nominee and helps us defeat an existential threat to American values and political freedom.
And I regret my own bursts of snark and anger over the last few months. It was a rough one, especially since I started out backing Sanders and so was seen even by own lefty friends as selling out to support Hillary by about January.
I think it really matters that we elect a woman.
This was a gracious and appreciated post. Bravo.

Together we can win this thing.

(1,630 posts)There is so much more that unites us than divides us.
We need to be on the right side of history in this election. It is so important. The damage Trump can do to the civil rights, foreign policy, environment, education, poor is just incalculable. Progress can be like climbing a mountain. Sure footing and stability for so many at risk means finding the next best step and preventing falls that some can never recover from.

(13,776 posts)What a wonderful way to start the day! Thanks for posting this.
I have missed the old DU that used to be like a port in a storm; I always felt like we were one big community, but in the past few months... not so much. There's a lot of dashed hopes and disappointment on one side, and residual injured feelings on both sides, but I think after a brief period of adjustment, and of threads like yours, it'll feel like home again.
Logical
(22,457 posts)Il_Coniglietto
(373 posts)Than it is to be for something. DU started as a refuge for Democrats after the 2000 "Election," united in our hatred of the Bush Administration. I think that created a special sense of community, especially after 9/11 when the ra-ra patriotism was at its peak.
We've obviously had our ups and downs since then, but ultimately what keeps us together is the understanding that the Republican Party is antithetical to everything we believe in and hold dear. Every year we think, "they can't get any worse!" And yet they do.
Thankfully, we have the ability to stop them.
Great post, OP, and thank you! This is what makes DU awesome

(6,007 posts)what nonsense. You can't be a Bernie supporter because you are totally uninformed. This OP is just some made up meme, like all the other "I'm a Bernie supporter, but .. . ." posts.
According to the RULES of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, NO candidate who does not get 59% of the PLEDGED delegates can be the nominee before the convention. That's the rule.
The media were told this over and over, that the SDs do not count UNTIL the convention. But they just ignored that rule. Just like Hillary ignored all those rules about handling Classified information. How fitting.

(6,007 posts)It is not the AP who makes a nominee for the Democratic party, it is the Democratic party. And their spokesman has been out several times in interviews telling the rules.
Unless one candidate gets 59% of the PLEDGED delegates, they are not the nominee. And the nominee will have to be determined at the convention by the SDs. He also said that the SDs are likely to change their minds.
But in any case, I don't believe the convention has happened, so the Democratic Party does not have a nominee.

(4,284 posts)I have posted some things I regret because the Hillary bashing was way over the top and incessant. At times I thought I had been redirected to Freerepublic by accident. I have a lot of respect for Bernie Sanders and his success is nothing short of amazing. It looks like it's time to move on though and get about the business of making sure Donald Trump is shown up to be the racist, lying, clown that he is and sent packing.
I know some of the polls show that Sanders had a better chance of winning. Some of us who have watched a bunch of these elections know to take these hypothetical matchup polls with a grain of salt. The polls that matter will come in early August.
