It is an important distinction to make, because polling place exit polls often yield a very different result.

The demographics that make use of the mail/absentee option tend to skew much older than those who don't.

ballot arrived, so mail-in ballots allowed her to participate in her last election because she died yesterday. (She voted for Hillary.)

She has always done far better in mail in's (an older cohort tends to vote by mail).

Looks like she's at about 53%. Would have expected better. I think this actually bodes well for Sanders
