Whole apartment buildings were missing from the roster at my polling location, so many ppl complained about being registered and not listed

This should have people running to the polls in November.
Note: And this is far from the only complaint that's out there. Now what does this remind me off..... Oh, that's right NY that was missing whole blocks of voters in Brooklyn.

(247 posts)...people were missing from the voter roles but I said nothing because it favored my candidate...then the next election happened and I was not on the voter role...see how it works. I heard this morning that the Carter Center could not monitor our elections, as they do in emerging democracy worldwide because our system does not meet their minimum qualifications because we suck at the fair election process.

(146,286 posts)The nearest polling place is not necessarily your polling place. Precinct boundaries establish that. Give me the address, and I'll look it up.

(146,286 posts)The goal is always to have the same number of people in each precinct. Apartment buildings often are part of the boundary decisions. It's not uncommon for a polling place across the street not to be in the precinct of a large apartment building. There are some such situations in most large cities. Precinct chairs and others should be informing people of their voting locations. I certainly do that where I am.

(18,402 posts)For years we voted at the IBEW auditorium in Chicago (about 5 blocks from my house), but as the neighborhood grew, a few years ago they switched our precinct to vote in the lobby of a nearby apartment building (1 block away). I had checked my registration and polling information online (plus got a postcard about it), so knew about it. But I bet there were people here that year that went to the "regular" place.
I don't think a Twitter post is much proof of anything.

(146,286 posts)Simple. Provide an address, and anyone can look up the polling place. Non story here.
