http://www.theonion.com/article/voters-glad-they-got-hope-politicians-out-system-n-53069Admitting it was actually kind of a relief to have it over with, the nations voters reported Thursday that with Bernie Sanders no longer possessing a viable path to the nomination, they were glad they got all their feelings of hope in politicians out of their system for the next election cycle or two. Its sort of nice to realize that, after this, I can pretty much just sit back and know that I wont have to feel any genuine excitement about a political figures integrity or their desire to make fundamental change to the status quo until a few elections from now, said registered voter Luke Downing of Oakland, CA, echoing the sentiment of millions across the country who explained that it felt like a load off their mind to let go of their sense of encouragement and to not have to worry about rallying behind a politician they believed actually had their best interests at heart until 2024 or so.

(757 posts)Clinton and Sanders both have their supporters that have gone off the deep end with some of their claims.
That said, if someone was reading this article actively looking for that sort of slant, I would say that they might see it in the last line of the article:
Downing went on to say he was glad he had finished voting for the next several election cycles as well.
(The implication being exactly what we've heard a lot of folks here say about Sanders support being wide and shallow)

(5,815 posts)I don't have to care anymore. Don't need to read around about politics, bother with the horse race, or really even expect anything whatsoever from the national parties for awhile.
If anything good actually happens, that'll be an unexpected bonus. But I expect zero from either a Trump or Clinton administration.
Wednesday morning, all the toxicity just flushed right out. Right now I'm reading DU and wondering why all the bitterness (especially from the winners. What will they do without anyone to dump on? Probably eat each other).
I'm just going to worry about local issues for the next 4-8 years. The national parties have nothing to say to me.
I'm having a little trouble disengaging, but in a few days when things get a lot less welcoming around here, it'll probably help me refocus on something more personal... I'll probably paint more and internet less, and it'll be good for my soul.

(5,815 posts)Because the new rules are going to be hilarious. Somehow, I think a lot of people think "This toxicity will end," only applies to Sanders supporters. I think some of the more trollish Clinton supporters will be in for a huge shock when their behavior isn't tolerated (and most of the worst posters were jerks well before the primaries began). I will lurk with mango-coconut popcorn on hand. (And also, they will eat each other).
I have a stack of books I want to read that the internet has been distracting from. First up will be the Sympathizer by Viet Thanh Nguyen. It won the Pulitzer, and I've heard nothing but good things.

(2,872 posts)That, and disengaging. As it would turn out, 16 year old me was right about politics in general, I've found-- it's all a stage play, the outcome was preordained. Sit back with your glass, watch the sparks fly, laugh in the right places, gasp in the right places, white-knuckle through the climax and breath a sigh of relief at the resolution. Make-believe.
