Party Primaries Are Important!

They let voters from a party contribute to selecting a nominee for the General Election. The most important thing contributed is votes. In the end, it is the totality of those votes that decides. States allocated pledged delegates according the the proportion of votes each candidate got. All 50 states held primary events, either caucuses or elections, along with a few territories and the District of Columbia.

If there are only two candidates, one of them will end the primary season with majority of those pledged delegates that come from all of those jurisdictions. We also have some unpledged delegates who can make up their own minds. About 15% of all delegates are those so-called super delegates. They can be counted on to support the candidate with the majority of pledged delegates if there are only two candidates.

That's all the primaries do. They're not actually how this country elects its President. They're just the semi-finals in the process. In the end, those same voters in all of those jurisdictions will vote again. This time, they will have a nominee for the party they have chosen for their votes during the primaries.

The arguments from the primaries are done. One of the candidates succeeded and the other did not. But, now, we have a nominee, or will after the nominating convention. We argued among ourselves during the primaries, but our arguments are over now. Now, we have a nominee from the other party to contend with. The party that does the best at coming together will win in November. That's how it works. I hope we'll put the arguments behind us and do exactly that, because the Republicans have chosen a truly unsuitable nominee for President. We need to see to it that he does not move into the White House.

Hillary 2016!
