away from a party that spends far too much time raising money for wealthy people"
"Bolstered by millions of votes, record campaign contributions, and the support of close to 1,900 delegates, Sanders has said he intends to push for a bold progressive agenda ahead of and during the Democratic National Convention in July.
On Sunday, after an "exciting and productive" meeting with a handful of his closest supporters, Sanders said, "We are taking this campaign and our ideas for a strong platform to transform the Democratic Party away from a party that spends far too much time raising money for wealthy people into a party which represents the grassroots of this country."
He reminded reporters that "election days come and go but political revolutions are not dependent on election days," and expressed pride that "in primary after primary and state after state, we have received by significant margins the support of young people, which tells me that our vision is in fact that vision of the United States."
To that end, Sanders said, "What we need is a 50-state strategy, which engages people, young people, working people to stand up and run for school board, to run for city council, to run for state legislature, to revitalize American democracy at the local, state and federal level. Demand that government starts listening to ordinary people rather than campaign contributors."

(2,542 posts)It's redundant that a political movement in a nation with 50 states would need to focus on all 50 states. No points awarded for stating the obvious.

(2,542 posts)abandon you and your issues while he focuses on his "class" struggle, which will, same as the New Deal did, mostly benefit white people, due to unaddressed systemic racism, sexism, and homophobia at the state level.

(10,751 posts)The Democratic Party already discarded it, so it's free for the taking.
Too bad DWS (and Rahm) thought the 50 state strategy was a loser. We see how well that has served the party under DWS's stewardship.
Go, Bernie! Help us to retake our party and our country. And thank you for showing EVERYONE that it CAN be done with small donors, not relying on the fat cats.

(68,539 posts)and if I never saw his face or listened to his voice again politically speaking...bliss. He has treated the first woman presidential candidate like dirt...always the women Wasserman, Feinstein, Boxer ET AL get trashed and of course his favorite target Hillary Clinton. I will never forget that Bernie treated the first woman presidential candidate with such disrespect.

(26,624 posts)Also will never be forgotten
"This year marks the 20th anniversary of Bill Clintons welfare reform. It also coincides with Hillary Clintons second run at the White House. The overlap has more meaning than mere chance. Hillarys decision to support and whip votes for the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act was a crucial turning point in her career. It was when she transformed into the politician she is today.
Its also one of the few controversial episodes from her past for which she has never apologizedshes been plenty willing to ditch other parts of her husbands legacy. She repudiated her use of the phrase super-predator to describe black children in gangs and apologized for the consequences of the 1994 crime bill. Shes come out strongly in favor of gay rights, including the right to marry, contra her husbands signing of DOMA. Shes even backed away from NAFTA, a trade pact she once said was proving its worth.
Welfare reform has been different. Clintons support for it hasnt wavered over the 20 years since her husband signed the bill into law, and shes reaffirmed it numerous times since then. Many policymakers who once supported welfare reform have repudiated it, thougheven academics who once praised the law have changed their minds.
Now, its running headlong into some of the main messages of Clintons campaign. The people it most harmedeconomically vulnerable women, particularly single mothers and their childrenare those for whom Clinton says she is fighting. Welfare reform dropped many single mothers and their children from the rolls, some of whom now have no source of income, yet she says shes playing the gender card for womens economic rights and wants to give every child the opportunity to live up to his or her God-given potential. Welfare reform has been linked to a surge in extreme poverty, yet she has detailed plans to address income inequality. Welfare reform was fueled by ugly stereotypes about women of color, yet she grounded issues of racial and gender justice in the early messages of her campaign."

(68,539 posts)I agree...he played ball way too much with the GOP. Although to be fair...childcare,education, medical care and jobs programs were included in the bill ...later Bush and Congress later stripped out of the good parts of the program. Bill should have known this would happen . But he was a way better choice than either BushI or Dole. He also gave us Breyers and Ginsberg...No matter what Bill Clinton did or did not do as president. Hillary Clinton was not elected and had no role in crafting policy...save her attempt to enact single payer.
