A great speech and a great reasoning for staying in the race.

(1,438 posts)It would be the honorable and honest thing to do.
Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)I am old enough to remember a time when we had multiple candidates at the convention and delegate votes were counted there -- it was after that convention vote/count the nominee was official -- and not a moment before.
When all the delegate vote and HRC wins the most delegates, then the primary is over and Sanders' has lost.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)and hundreds of pledged delegates.
Its over for everyone but Sanders and his most diehard supporters.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)Things are decided at it beyond the nominee.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)The only way Sanders prevails at the convention (which he won't) is to destroy democracy. If that is what you are hoping for then you aren't someone I would ever want to have on my side.

Look, Hillary won and nothing any Sanders supporter can say or do will change that.
You can whine and cry and rend your garments. But it won't change the fact that the primary is over and Sanders will not be the nominee.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)You are the one who doesn't want the process to continue as designed.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)The last primary was on Tuesday in DC. Clinton won. Ego, Sanders lost.
Gore1FL
(21,128 posts)I am not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand. I've watched this stuff for decades. We've had a convention every fours years to conduct party business including creating a platform, and electing a nominee.
You can probably google it.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)is to dot the i's and cross the t's. Certainly you know this if you've watched this stuff for decades.
What is certain no to happen is that Sanders won't be named the nominee.

LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)The democratic process has played out.
The only hope for Sanders to win the nomination is to disregard the will of the democratic process.
So yeah, it would be pretty dramatic if that were to happen.

(55,981 posts)controlled Oligarchy. Those that support the corporate controlled have a lot of nerve tells the Progressive Wing that we want to "destroy democracy". This country has a worse election system than 23 other countries and why? Because your big corporations like it that way, they get the president they want that way. They rigged the elections in 2000 and 2004 and now 2016.
Those that side with the big money corporations over the 2.5 million homeless children are not on my side.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)there will always be those who refuse to accept the results of an election because in their minds, no one else can possibly be right.
WhiteTara
(29,704 posts)that in 2008, he told Hillary to get out of the race and he pledged his super delegate vote to Obama right after California. That was LONG before the convention. Sounds like a double standard to me.
Nonetheless, we have this thing called a convention. It hasn't happened yet. It'll be in the news when it does!

You aren't helping the party, "fellow Democrat", you are hurting it.
bkkyosemite
(5,792 posts)any thing that is polite. I am not hurting anything. I am believing in Bernie Sanders you believe in Hillary Clinton and that's okay. Btw she is not the nominee. It's voted on in July..JFYI.
LoverOfLiberty
(1,438 posts)but whatever.
bkkyosemite
(5,792 posts)Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)HRC is not the Democrat nominee yet, which is why she is referred to as the "presumptive" nominee. That is just reality, whether you like it or not. Her name will be entered into nomination at the convention and so may Sanders'. The Delegates will vote. HRC will (most likely) win that count. She will then -- and ONLY then -- be the Presidential nominee of the Democratic Party. (And the popular vote total is meaningless because it is the delegates who nominate the candidate, not the voters.)
Lord Magus
(1,999 posts)If he refuses to tell his supporters that, it's a lie of omission.
Hell Hath No Fury
(16,327 posts)Because they are who nominate and vote on the Democratic Presidential nominee. Until that vote takes place, no one has "won" or "lost" anything. THAT is reality.

(26,259 posts)I did hear a lot of reiterating of his stand on issues, but at this point in any campaign, that's what you hear.
I'll give you my 2 cents worth, as an ardent Sanders supporter. I know that Hillary Clinton will be the nominee. I would be beyond gob smacked if there was any other outcome. And, I will vote for her, and not have to hold my nose to do it, as I have a lot of respect for her.
To me, the most important thing is to defeat Trump, or any other Republican. And to take back the senate and make big gains in the house.
I say that because I am a Democrat, first.
Evergreen Emerald
(13,069 posts)and stop the insinuation that only he can fix America. And stop the demands for the Democratic party. That is what I would like to hear.
Siwsan
(26,259 posts)And, really, he did, in a way. Just not in a definitive way. (Pardon my parsing.) I truly believe he wants to make some significant changes and to have an impact on the party platform and direction. And maybe he thinks sticking to it until the convention is the right way to have an impact. Can't fault him for that. He is not the enemy, and neither is she.
I just hope everybody puts on their big kids pants and work together to keep the White House. I mean, we can agree to disagree on some of the issues, but this vitriolic behavior and language from people on both sides doesn't do anyone any good.
Thanks for "listening" to me!

(538 posts)SO Cool you will like reading this! 91.41% Bernie supporters will NOT support Hillary Clinton if she is the nominee!
So you don't have to be concern about us anymore!
http://www.usainfobox.com/latest-survey-91-41-of-bernie-sanders-supporters-will-not-support-hillary-clinton-if-she-is-nominee/
That means:
Together, in this campaign, 1.5 million people came out to our rallies and town meetings in almost every state in the country.
Together, hundreds of thousands of volunteers made 75 million phone calls urging their fellow citizens into action.
Together, our canvassers knocked on more than 5 million doors.
Together, we hosted 74,000 meetings in every state and territory in this country.
Together, 2.7 million people made over 8 million individual contributions to our campaign more contributions at this point than any campaign in American history.
Which means 2,468,070 million of Bernie's donors won't support her! YIPPIE!

And I'm going to KEEP fighting for the 99% - for a progressive agenda, against cutting Social Security, against TPP, against income inequality, FOR changes to deal with climate change, and I'm encouraging the 99% to run for local and national offices themselves - to GET INVOLVED,...etc."
Odd as HELL to see so much sneering here on "DEMOCRATIC Underground" against any of what he's saying he will go to the convention (and beyond) to fight for. It's what we ALL should be fighting for: DEMOCRATIC values, and a representative government that works for WE THE PEOPLE and not just THOSE GUYS the RICH and WEALTHY.
I'm really sorry to say that it sounds more like Free Republic here sometimes than DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND.
