Hillary Demolishes Donald in Pittsburgh Speech

From CNN.com:

Hillary Clinton on Tuesday offered a point-by-point rebuttal to Donald Trump's plan to combat terrorism, accusing the presumptive Republican nominee of peddling "lies" because "he has to distract us from the fact he has nothing substantive to say."

Americans, Clinton argued here, "don't need conspiracy theories and pathological self-congratulations, we need leadership, common sense and concrete plans."

Clinton, who spoke from a union hall, hit Trump for being simplistic on fighting terrorism and, she said, having only two ideas to address the problem: Using the term "radical Islamic terrorism" and banning Muslims and people from countries with terrorism ties from entering the United States.

"First he is fixated on the words radical Islam. Now I must say, I find this strange. Is Donald Trump suggesting that there are magic words that once uttered will stop terrorists from coming after us?" Clinton said, mocking Trump before saying that she believes "it matters what we do, not just what we say."

Trump has repeatedly slammed Clinton and President Barack Obama for not using the term and did so again on Monday.

"If Donald suggests I won't call this threat what it is, he hasn't been listening," Clinton added. "What I will not do is demonize and declare war on an entire religion."

for Donald Trump to propose making a "deal" with the terrorists, since he is reputed to be such a good negotiator and deal-maker...

Headline writers need some new words.

It is so tiresome to see that, once again, some media figure "lays utter waste" to some other media figure and then later find out the one who had been "annihilated" is up and walking around the next day.

What a speech!

I do wish she would have had more rallies like this, that I could have watched...

She brought tears to my eyes.

I still hope Bernie can continue to be a thorn in the side of repubs, and help bring more liberal folk to local, state and national elections.

5. WTF she is going to bring steelworkers jobs back and enforce anti-dumping laws

against China. Bill Clinton was one of the main reasons our steel jobs are gone and he did absolutely nothing about
China or anyone else dumping steel. I know Bill isn't running but give me a break, how does she expect anyone to believe that bullshit?

then nothing was done. Around 50 major steel companies liquidated before Clinton left office.

without researching it, is that there were strong parts of the economy in the 90's but that wasn't one of them. Average wages went up, stronger growth than the 80's etc. In the 90's the country was enthralled with Reaganomics and that pushed policy in certain ways that had consequences. But I believe we are out of that trap now. Did you read the linked document above?

steelworkers back to work. Those mills that shut down no longer exist. A steel mill can't be built overnight, it takes years. Clinton, Trump or Bernie will never bring them back, those jobs are lost forever. That was that that giant sucking sound Ross Perot told us about. I registered as a Republican to vote for him that election and still think he was right.

11. I don't think there are simple answers to every problem.

And some changes in the world may be more or less inevitable despite NAFTA. I seem to recall that overseas imports played a major role in steel industry changes. But I am not knowledgable enough to debate it.

I actually believe the following as being more problematic than free trade:

tax policy changes (starting in the 80's, made worse with dubya)
wall street regs (changes going back to the 70's)
Right wing propaganda efforts

When public opinion moves it affects elections. There was nothing much that could have been done to STOP the mistakes that happened once the ball got rolling. Best was to limit the damage.

Hillary and her economic team are going to use tax policy to change corporate behavior, increases in revenue used for large investment programs.

But instead of me typing out her plans and making mistakes or omissions, take the time to read the docs that are published.

They have also said that all of the tax plans have not been put out yet. Perhaps we will see new details next week. More about that in this interview about her economic plans:

do away with Union jobs and in the process Democratic votes. The same thing with DB pensions Reagan had pensions classified as
an asset instead of a liability to eliminate pensions and therefore Union jobs. The Democrats played right into their hands back in the 80s and 90s.

Get kicked out of power almost completely or work according to public opinion but from the Democratic philosophy of protecting the working class. So they put worker protections into the trade deals. Now have they worked as intended? Bill has said that he was unable to do everything he wanted to make sure they worked because of the puke congress at the time.

Hillary has proposed to get tougher on those protections that are in the existing trade deals. That was discussed in the first link I posted to you above.

Whenever somebody blames Bill Clinton from the left I just shake my head. All politicians are subject to public opinion in the final analysis. That doesn't mean that activists can't have an effect by turning out for primaries etc. But the '92 Clinton campaign, and his nomination, was a direct result of more liberal policy positions losing BADLY in previous elections. Don't take the 90's out-of-context. That context needs to include what came before.

Reaganomics bandwagon. When Hillary said she would put Bill in charge of the economy a couple weeks ago that was an incredibly stupid thing to say. We now have a decimated middle class, almost no unions or steel industry because of the last time he was in charge.
