Bernie Sanders, whose presidential campaign has energized Democratic and independent voters, said Friday he will vote for the party's presumptive nominee Hillary Clinton.

Small steps, I guess

Weird.

(17,431 posts)From his remarks lately, I suspect that the lack of a formal endorsement is in hopes of leverage on the party's platform.

That last should help most of his followers decide to stick with him. I don't believe those few who'll go to Trump ever would have.

However I don't think they are the majority of his followers.
Trump is a dangerous demagogue that we all must stop from becoming President. That is the most important thing at the moment.
We can go back to arguing politics after that fascist is defeated.

(28,270 posts)are going to try and pull a fast one on Trump at their convention and put in one of their own.
That will trigger all out war between the baggers and the GOP'ers.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)The largest political action consortium of the super-rich, the Koch group, is itself believed to rival the GOP in power, and the GOP is vulnerable to its money influence also.
So it's possible the super-rich manipulators' biggest concern, if they managed to pull of a coup and put someone of their choice in, would be to make sure angry conservatives blamed only the GOP for it and not them--or maybe funnel the anger straight to the Democrats. They have extremely well established perception-twisting organizations devoted to just that kind of thing, and rationality has nothing to do with it.
Also, those baggers are mostly Trumpers these days and, as always, will be needing a leader to follow, so likely they'd be working on satisfying that need at the same time. An "outsider" ringer might do that, promising to "get corruption out" of the ruins of the Republican Party.
All speculating of course, no idea what they'll do. The one thing we can be sure of is that they're examining every development for advantage and opportunity. The sooner we take them down, definitely the better for all of us.

(9,527 posts)For whatever his differences with Clinton, it pales in comparison to his differences with Trump.
Running for president is an enormously difficult thing to do. Letting that go is equally difficult I'm sure. So it may have taken some time, but he's just spent the last year working 24/7 on running for president.

(37,428 posts)...first tacitly by running as a Democrat, and later more specifically. He has long said that his campaign ends in Philly, and that he will be working to defeat Trump. We have been able to read between the lines for months.
The only "finally" in this story is in the MSM's getting the sound bite they've wanted.
