(6,444 posts)According to the Huffington Post, the fundraising email isnt the first time two of these three candidates have worked with the Sanders campaign. Both Flores and Jayapal introduced the presidential candidate during rallies in their respective home states of Nevada and Washington. Flores also appeared in an advertisement for Sanders that ran before the Nevada caucuses.
But two of these three candidates are seeking to defeat openly gay contenders seeking the Democratic nomination to run for Congress. As of right now, a total of seven lawmakers serving in the Congress are openly gay, lesbian or bisexual, or slightly more than 1 percent of the legislative body. Thats short of the estimated 3.5 percent of the U.S. population as a whole who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual, according to the Williams Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles. (Transgender people make up an estimated one-third of one percent of the U.S. population, but no member of Congress, nor any member of a state legislature, is openly transgender.)
Teachout is running against Will Yandik, an openly gay farmer and Livingston deputy town supervisor who recently had a child with his same-sex spouse. Their primary is on June 28, weeks after the presidential contest on Tuesday.

(6,444 posts)In any case as fellow democrats we don't necessarily agree on all issues or on what issues we find more important!
Her Sister
(6,444 posts)he's very knowledgeable and specific on the issue probably because he's a gun owner and grew up so. Lots of people are in this area.
He's also for banning Fracking as he explains he did as Mayor in the debate.
The debate answers a lot of these issues and questions.
Plus the anti-Israel BDS question which is important in this area but Teachout dodged answering.

(5,861 posts)I would need to see a clearer commitment.
EDIT - I meant regarding UBC's and TPP. I saw that he was against the loophole, but the UBC's is the big issue.

(6,444 posts)Not many people voting. Plus Yanndik had little exposure.
Both Candidates had similar positions across the board.
She won. Congrats to her!

In any case I voted for Yandic, yesterday. She won. This is a battleground district, so we'll see in November.

(5,861 posts)It seems like in the rest of the battlegrounds, Republicans have had higher turnout this year.
Some say primary turnout has nothing to do with the GE but I don't know.

(6,444 posts)She is voting against Trump in the general but sometimes the way she describes Trump makes me feel like she understands something I am not getting about him. I want to go and choke her neck when I hear too much empathy for the bullshit. But she did vote for Kasich in the Primary here in NY! So letting her live!
In any case she's voting for HRC in the General. Guess Trump is just gross at the end of the day. So all good.

(50,504 posts)I'm in Indiana and there are only 2 every year except for the year after a Presidential election.
In Wisconsin they have up to 3 elections I think. They have a spring election, fall primary, and the general.
Retrograde
(10,073 posts)and put as many contests and issues as they can on one ballot and only do two - a primary and a general- in major election years. Many CA cities have even moved local elections to even-numbered years so they don't have to run separate elections. The downside is that we end up with long ballots (my personal best(?) ran to 7 pages, but there were a lot of propositions that year) and potentially a long time to count and check everything, especially if the state is liberal about mail-in and provisional ballots.
This year we're planning on 2 elections - the one we just had, and the one in November. Last year my district didn't have any. Again, there's a potential downside in that without regular reminders some people seem to forget how they're registered or how to vote, or claim the whole process is set up specifically to annoy them.

(6,444 posts)Me and my Republican sister went to vote and proceeded to just chat afterwards with them and they thanked us for coming for almost no one had- this was at 5pm!
It was funny to them that me and my sister were just on opposite sides: Republican and Democrat.
Edit: Republican sister voting for HRC in the General!
