Trump campaign soliciting illegal donations from Scottish MP

Blatant FEC violation on the part of the Trump campaign.

http://www.dailykos.com/stories/2016/6/28/1543337/-The-Trump-campaign-s-likely-going-to-regret-asking-this-fierce-Scottish-MP-for-an-illegal-donation

The Federal Elections Commission is very clear on the fact that foreign nationals cannot legally donate to candidates in the United States. The reason is pretty simple—they don’t want U.S. elections to be influenced by outside money. That apparently didn’t stop the Trump campaign from sending a fundraising solicitation to Scottish Parliament members. The email was from Donald Trump, Jr., on behalf of his father. Scottish Member of Parliament Natalie McGarry was repulsed by Trump’s “repugnant campaign” and she fiercely replied back with a public flogging.

Apparently, they sent fundraising emails to Icelandic parliamentarians as well:

Numerous members of the Icelandic parliament are both bemused and confused by an email, apparently received by all of then, asking for donations to the presidential campaign of Donald Trump. Independence Party MP Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson told MBL that he was surprised to receive the email; more so to be addressed as a “friend” of Trump in said email. He also confirmed for reporters that he would not be donating to the Trump campaign.

They probably believe that FEC laws, like IRS rules, do not apply to them. Koinos Jun 2016 #3

And the Trumps can't very well feign ignorance since most overseas email addresses clearly have a country code like dot-UK and dot-IS. And it sounds like it was a pretty widespread practice. Hello FEC?

and have no clue about what is legal or not legal, though ignorance of the law is not a defense. They're dumb asses with money.

I am curious as to whether the FEC will completely ignore these incidents or actually send out some sort of warning letter.

I wonder if someone has to file a formal complaint before the FEC will act.
