MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin will be sending 45 members of the State Patrol to Cleveland next month to help with security at the Republican National Convention. That is 11 percent of the State Patrol's 409 sworn staff members.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation spokeswoman Patty Mayers says those going to the convention are being diverted from lower priority assignments and on overtime. She says all of the costs will be funded by Ohio through a mutual aid agreement. 50-100K, but that just made me think they really have no idea. But fwiw, 50K was the bottom estimate.

For the glass-is-half-full-of-mud crowd, states and nations helping each other out is a good thing. Most people even think the two extreme-weather planes and pilots flying from Calgary to Antarctica to rescue that critically ill man from the South Pole was a heroic and wonderful effort. It didn't mean the people at the South Pole were considered more important by some "the establishment" than those at the North Pole, nor did sending 2 planes mean there's at least 1 too many.
