(68,868 posts)The Democratic party lacks internal consensus on the TPP. So it's not fair to say it opposes or that it supports the TPP.

I have said it before and I will say it again: Impeachment is off the table, Pelosi, D-Calif., said during a news conference.

Pelosi: Bush Impeachment `Off the Table
Bush, who lied us into invading Iraq, killing hundreds of thousands of people and costing us trillions of dollars, is spared impeachment because Pelosi took him "off the table."
You know, that kind of "off the table."

(8,356 posts)"...the White House has leaned on key Democrats to make sure that the platform did not include a rebuke.
That became clear last weekend in St. Louis, when the platform drafting committee -- which includes just five Sanders appointees -- shot down a TPP plank. According to several committee members, the president personally spoke to the drafting committee's chairman, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), and the White House did more outreach to make sure that Clinton appointees who might otherwise oppose TPP did not write that into the platform...."

The Democratic Party will be played as being for the TPP without a rebuke.
I worry that this will lose the election for us.

(20,709 posts)I don't know how it would affect the race if they did endorse it, but since they didn't, and they won't, then who really cares?

(8,356 posts)It's what the president wants. By not coming out against the TPP, the platform committee supports it.
Think I'll climb out of the rabbit hole, now. Thanks for this exchange.

(20,709 posts)both Hillary and Bernie. So they leave it out of the platform so as to not give the president the finger.
This is borderline Orwellian truth-denial, to insist that the Dem platform "endorses" TPP, when in fact they don't endorse TPP. It's the opposite of the truth.

(3,660 posts)If you had used "would" instead of "will" it may have been a mildly diverting hypothetical (if anyone cares the probable answer is "not much difference" but since they did no such thing, the question as asked is utter nonsense.

(53,866 posts)the party and a very popular president. Also, there is an odd chance that he might be right to be pro-TPP because so far he has not shown much of an inclination for fucking over Americans.
