2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLooking toward November,
I'm working on getting started with GOTV activities here in Minnesota. My legislative districts are solidly Democratic, and all of them have progressive incumbents. I'll be encouraging as many voters in my precinct as possible to turn out and vote for them and for Hillary Clinton at the top of the ballot.
In Minnesota, we have two congressional districts which have a good potential for flipping from Republican to Democratic. MN CD-2 and MN CD-3. CD-2 has no incumbent running and is only narrowly Republican. We have a strong candidate. CD-3 is more problematic, but also has a thin Republican margin. If Democratic turnout is high and distaste for Donald Trump keeps GOP voters away from the polls, we could realistically flip both districts, adding to our House Representation. I'll be helping in any way I can in those two districts.
Neither of Minnesota's Senators has to stand for election in 2016, so Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar will continue their admirable service in the Senate.
As in every election, the really important ballot races are below the presidential race. Those are the elections that will determine where we go in 2017 and beyond. Turning out Democrats to vote in those races, as always, is the chief goal. If that GOTV effort works, Hillary Clinton will have zero problem being elected in Minnesota.
In every state where DUers live, there are unique opportunities and challenges. As I do for every election, I encourage voters in every precinct, district and state to get involved with GOTV activism by contacting their local Democratic Party organization or individual Democratic candidates and volunteering as they are able. There are many ways to help, even if you have little time or little money to contribute. If you even convince one voter to decide to vote when they might not have, you have doubled your own vote. If you convince more, you multiply your own vote by that number. GOTV activism is simply the best possible way to influence how this country, your state, and your local area are governed. You can help, and I encourage to to help as much as you can.
GOTV 2016!

(146,286 posts)Getting Russ Feingold back in DC is an important goal. I know it can be done, and thank you for helping with that. That's a seat we're all counting on for 2017 and beyond.

(1,820 posts)We forget how important all seats in every office are! President is nice but local positions affect us much more. Voters Rule, apathy drools!

(146,286 posts)We should never forget that. Work where you live to get out the vote and we will win.

Thanks for your K&R!

Imagine thanking yourself for a job so well done as you're about to have the most scrumptious meal with your loved ones at the Thanksgiving table! Ah all the food stuff! dessert! Spiked Cider! Awesomely Happy! Arguing with your family about some innocuous non-sense with belly getting fuller... ahhhh...
While some Holday-ish music plays on the background...
