Iowa poll: Clinton up 14 on Trump, Grassley in tight race with Dem

?itok=491ugVGv

More: The Hill

A new poll of Iowa shows Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) with just a 1-point lead over his Democratic challenger and Hillary Clinton with a double-digit advantage on Donald Trump in the presidential race.

While the gap closes in the Loras College poll when third-party candidates are listed, it suggests Trump, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, faces an uphill climb in the Hawkeye State and that he may be hurting the six-term Republican senator.

Clinton has 48 percent support to Trump’s 34 percent in a head-to-head match-up.

When Libertarian Party nominee Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein are added, Clinton's lead narrows. In that scenario, she has 44 percent, with Trump at 31 percent, Johnson at 6 percent and Stein at 2 percent.

“I think third-party candidates, especially libertarian Gary Johnson, have their sights set on having 2016 be a breakthrough year. Both Johnson and Stein seek to capitalize on voter dissatisfaction and the lack of widespread enthusiasm of the Democratic and Republican candidates,” said Christopher Budzisz, director of the Loras College Poll.

General election polls in Iowa are sparse, but a Public Policy Polling survey earlier this month gave Clinton a 2-point lead over Trump.

Dump Trump or do his damn job as head of the Senate judiciary committee and schedule a hearing for Merrick Garland?

I think his strategy will be tons of commercials and avoiding issues directly. He has a trainload of money and almost unlimited command of more. He is also an incredibly loyal partisan. I don't think he will dump Trump - just kind of 'disappear' him in his (grassley's) campaign. Just pretend he doesn't exist.

Lots of very big special interests have big interest in getting Grassley re-elected.

Funny thing is right now he is so toxic in Iowa that he won't even announce town halls almost until they occur.

when the occasion was so momentous as to call for a true celebration.

I nearly opened one on January 20, 2009 but stopped short, thinking that we needed to see if Obama could actually pull the country out of the mess Bush had dumped on him.

But getting Grassley out of my life would be THE occasion. Yes it would. That SOB has been 'on the gummit tit' to use his term since 1959 and my fucking senator almost since I could vote.

YES that could be the one I have a beer for! It would taste so good!

This must be an outlier. Trump is going to sweep all of the swing states, according to the hand wringers and remaining bernie or bust posters here.

Rasmussen is the most accurate pollster in the US as long as you dont take the actual election results into account
