I posted information about getting my computer hacked when trying to log onto an invitation only Hillary site. The post was locked, but if anyone was following, here's the info I got from the company that hosted the website.

RESPONSE FOR PROBOARDS “SUPPORT HELPER”
Hi
You didn't happen to take any screenshots at the time, did you?
Because you mentioned 3 things, perhaps this could explain what you experienced. On the most common captcha [ prove you are human ], you will get it loading, and then have a 'verify' button. Next, you will be prompted to do something, for example, select a specific image(s), or move an image to the centre, or rotate an image, or something like that. After that, an ad will display. Is it possible that you could you have clicked the ad?

Under the ad, there should have been a 'submit' button to finish the captcha.

MY ANSWER
I no longer have an account at that web site, so I can't show you want I experienced, but what you describe sounds familiar. I had to rotate something. Then I got the ad. If the ad is something that ProBoards supports, then that may explain my experience. I was sure it wasn't a ProBoards thing. I don't know what I did to get "out," but whatever I did it presented a message in the same format as the Verify message asking me to call support at an 8xx number. So it may be the ad site that has been hacked. Or a malicious site that bought ProBoards ad space.

What does this have to do with the General Election?

This seems like it would be better suited for a computer focused group.

... new registrations could well have a high percentage of DUers who are Hillary supporters. I didn't want other DUers to be caught the way I was. I'm not trying to start a discussion. Just report a warning. I've since learned from ProBoards that that site has disabled registration, so it sounds like steps are being taken to clean things up.

Including the other update in the HRC group - kind of makes it seem like you are trying to find out who the members are at the other site?

Look - don't worry about all of these offshoot sites. This isn't your issue. To the user beware. Not your monkeys, not your circus - everything aok fine.

I'm sick to death of spinoff site posts. Sick of them.

I don't come to GD 2016 to read anything other than General Election news.

And I didn't assume anything.

computer? Malware usually. Dowload Malwarebytes, run a scan and avast and run a boot time scan. Both are free and will help you to clean you computer.

Also, if you get a pop up, never click on it, and never call the number. Also, download an ad block extension on your browser.

Hope that helps!

... that the format was exactly like the ProBoards format. Pretty smart infection, I'd say. The ProBoards support person suggested the most likely scenario, which is that the ad site they support was either infected or malicious.

They also reported that the site in question has disabled new registrations.

Since this nefarious site doesn't even allow new users?

That's good to know!
