Related: About this forumHow hypocritical of the right to attack Secretary Clinton
for "shaming" Monica Lewinsky (which she didn't do) at the same time they are very publicly spreading slanders about Alicia Machado.
If Ms. Machado were to ask my advice, I would say a) don't take any of their blather to heart--you're doing your country and women everywhere a tremendous service by taking a courageous stand against this bully and serial abuser and b) get yourself a good libel attorney and sue these idiots for everything they have.
The "sex tape" nonsense spread by Trump, Hannity et. al. is libel, pure and simple. You can't go on the airwaves and internet and spread out and out lies about someone with the intent of destroying their reputation if they aren't a candidate for office (in which case, as we've seen, no such rules seem to apply). Despite her endorsement for Secretary Clinton, Ms. Machado is still a private citizen and certain rules still apply.
I would even think about the option of suing these jerks in a British court, since the intended damage to her reputation is international in scope, has certainly hit the British media, and libel laws in Britain provide more recourse for plaintiffs.
It would be beautiful poetic justice if Ms. Machado not only helped take down the Trump campaign, but ended up owning his golf course in Scotland as recompense for the harm he has caused her.
I'd be interested in hearing from any libel attorneys out there on whether or not my suggestion is legally feasible.
In the meantime: Go Hillary!!!

(13,305 posts)..and congratulate the Republican party for finally moving past thinking personal matters impact someone's ability for the presidency by nominating a three times married, admitted adulterer who has expressed support for gays and abortion rights in the past. It shows they are finally evolving on issues.
Yes, it is "praising" them, but it will piss off the evangelical, puritanical base to no end and point out their rabid hypocrisy.

(8,047 posts)and might be a good tactic until the election. But in the meantime I'd get myself a good attorney and start building a case against Trump and Hannity, certainly, and any others publicly repeating these slanders.
Nothing talks to these people like a threat to their wallets. Fox News has already had to pay out tens of millions because of Ailes. It would be sweet justice if they had to pay out tens of millions more because of Trump and Hannity.

(68,555 posts)I speak from experienced...disastrous teen marriage, divorce by age 21 and happily married to the love of my life now...but I would still cross the street if I saw her in order to avoid any contact...my ex cheated on me with this person...I have mellowed...I used to fantasize about beating the crap out of her. Yes, I know intellectually it was his fault completely...he was married. But I still despise her all these years later. People will understand that and as a serial cheater, Trump is on thin ice.
