The Hurricane and Florida Voting

Hello, coming from Tampa, about the one major Florida Metropolitan area not in danger of getting a cat 4 Hurricane. Orlando, Jacksonville, are all in it's path, and frankly, I am not resting easy even though I am on the other side of the state, because I know I could drive to that "other side of the state" and be there in time for dinner.

However, I have a political concern; the part that the Hurricane is hitting is also the LEFTWARD side of the state, especially Orlando which has many Latinos, and an LGBT community that got very vocal and mobilized thanks to the nightclub massacre. I will be blunt, I would nto put it past Rick Scot to try and take advantage, like for example say that so many voter records are gone, meanwhile, the panhandle (aka the part that i still fighting the civil war) gets everything.

In the words of Rachel Maddow, if you can, talk me down

it shouldn't be that much of a concern. Why, exactly, should voter records disappear because of the hurricane? And there will be time to take the Republicans to court if they try that nonsense. You do have early voting, yes?

Freaking out over this makes no sense. It is, in the words of an older generation, "borrowing trouble." No need to do that.

And clearing debris is exactly what can hinder early voting, especially if it makes an excuse for Rick to hinder things. Here is a hint, if you are trying to clam someone down, using certain tones of voice does not help. You may not have meant to be patronizing, yes?, but that wad the effect.

I am not intending to be patronizing, but freaking out a month ahead of election day itself isn't helpful, either.

How exactly do you want to be reassured?

And besides, wasn't there a serious hurricane that hit NYC in late October 2012, almost immediately ahead of voting that year?

Really, you can calm down.

Remember Florida may not even get hit. Their is a possibility its going to turn back to the ocean and
run down. Hopefully that happens and people can get back to their homes soon.

The hurricane stretches out from the center about 160 miles. Even Orlando, which is not on the coast is under Hurricane warning. This is going to be a Category 4 storm and everytime they update the forecast it moves more to the west. The only question is how badly we get hit. The last update reported that it may actually make landfall in Brevard County. Hopefully the center stays over water and doesn't make a direct hit with land so less areas are impacted.

Both Orlando and Jacksonville are in the path, and while I wish them the best, I am under no illusions about the ability of any city in Florida, including my Tampa, to deal with a Category 4.

I agree that a Cat 4 hit on Tampa would be a hot mess. That being said, I think voting will go fine.
