Kaine baits Trump: ‘His own running mate threw him under the bus — that’s going to work on his head’

Tim Kaine baits Trump: ‘His own running mate threw him under the bus — that’s going to work on his head’

Tim Kaine may not have the post-debate pundit plaudits, but he took a victory lap Thursday morning on CNN’s “New Day” as he laid another trap for Donald Trump.

Several reports have suggested that Trump wasn’t happy that his running mate, Mike Pence, declined to defend some of his most controversial statements, which Kaine repeatedly recited onto the record during Tuesday’s vice-presidential debate.

“There’s been a lot of stories to suggest that Donald Trump’s reaction to the debate was one of anger — why won’t my own running mate defend me?” Kaine said. “I think that’s going to work on his head a little bit as he goes into prepping for the really important debate on Sunday.”

Kaine reminded viewers that Trump had a poor performance last week, in the first presidential debate, and then he watched Pence back away from his record instead of defending it. “He saw a debate two nights ago where his own running mate sort of threw him under the bus,” Kaine said. “So yeah, I’m sure the Trump campaign is not happy with that debate, and that puts some extra pressure on him getting ready for Sunday.”

Not just the long game through November, but for future elections too. Tie Republican leaders to Trump and force them to defend their support in 2018/2020.

It's so nice to be in the party of adults

Kaine made pence lie, deny, then denounce (in regards to Putin). He made Pence openly avow that he was just as much of a liar as Trump. That is what those interruptions were about. Pence had to speak quickly and did not have time to think. Kaine was coached masterfully.

I bet Pence already has plans for his career future that don't include Mr. Trump.

Kaine has the right elements: the soccer dad, the policy wonk, the consensus builder - and now the attack dog prosecutor. He'll tweak the formula as he goes along.

This narrative (of Pence throwing Trump under the bus, with an eye towards 2020) has definitely gotten into Trump's head according to several reports.

because during the debate Kaine unleashed a barrage of attacks on Trump and Trumpism, and Pence barely defended it, choosing instead to lie and sidestep and present a conservative-right platform that doesn't exist in this election, which the alt-right Trumpism is in conflict with.

Trump simply can't resist bait, especially when it strikes at his ego.

...that you can say someone is getting into his head and he will believe it.

It's that easy.

This is really, really smart on Hillary's part - to continue to get inside Trump's head, which seems to be remarkably easy.
