This is a nightmare.
But its time for Donald Trump to go back to Trump Tower. Time for Mike Pence to move to the top of the ticket. Time for Marco Rubio, or my favorite, Lindsay Graham, to move to the Veep spot.
Im not fickle. I have been a conservative in Hollywood for 40 years, and its cost me plenty. No matter. Loyalty is sacred to me.
But I am a Republican, and we are supposed to represent a high moral standard. We are the party of Dwight Eisenhower and of Ronald Reagan, whose charisma was based on dignity. Were the party of George W. Bush, who made terrible mistakes, but whose fundamental decency was never in doubt.
Now comes Donald Trump.

(26,257 posts)Being a conservative never hurt Fred Thompson, but then he was a good actor. Tom Selleck - good actor. Clint Eastwood - good director. Kelsey Grammer - pretty good actor. Gary Sinise - good actor. Angie Harmon - good actor. And I know there are more.
Maybe the real problem is, Ben Stein is a one trick pony. "Bueller? Bueller?"

(23,733 posts)I do find Gregory Peck, Ed Asner, Alan alda good actors

(26,257 posts)I always liked Fred Thompson, both in the movies and Law and Order. And it's hard to deny that Clint Eastwood is a pretty good director, although I never liked him, much, as an actor.
And I did like Kelsey Grammer as Frazier. Gary Sinese - yup - like him.
Angie Harmon isn't my cup of tea. I don't like voice, at all, and her delivery always sounds flat, to me. But she is continually working. So all of this goes against Stein's claim that it's his conservatism that keeps him from getting work.

(36,827 posts)Without it he was never more than 3rd rate at anything. It's not as if anyone who isn't already predisposed to his warped ideas is buying what he is selling.

(26,257 posts)That can't look good on a CV.
Major Nikon
(36,827 posts)He writes exactly as he talks in a very monochromatic and boring tone. It's actually his defining feature as a 3rd rate actor.

(80,708 posts)You're stuck with Trump, dude.
Major Nikon
(36,827 posts)He even floated the idea of voting for a Democrat early on. So while he might be an exceptional putz, at least he's been reasonably consistent on Trump.

(80,708 posts)awful hard-core religious right godbagger (who also happens to be another creationist) at the top of the ticket?
Plus he's concerned about the fortunes of his precious GOP
Fuck off, Ben. This is what you get. Go ahead and vote for Hillary if you don't like it.

(36,827 posts)Albeit one who attempts to make intellectual arguments for anti-intellectual ideas. I suspect what bothered him the most about Trump was there was never going to be a place for him inside a Trump administration and for someone who is facing an ever withering audience his well deserved obscurity seems to be closer than ever.
