Related: About this forumTrump's scorched-earth campaign could affect more than the election
WASHINGTON As he fell further behind in polls and battled allegations of sexual misconduct in recent days, Donald Trump moved to darker corners. He sketched out conspiracies involving global bankers, casually threatened to jail his political opponent, and warned in increasingly specific terms that a loss by him would spell the end of civilization.
The distrust of U.S. institutions that Trump has nurtured among his core supporters is readily apparent.
One North Carolina man predicted in an interview that the military would probably assassinate Hillary Clinton if she's elected president. A woman at an Iowa town hall for Trump's running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, offered to join a revolution if Clinton wins. A man at an Ocala, Fla., rally was certain Trump would fire the FBI and scores of other federal bureaucrats in a housecleaning if he wins.
Many who have watched Trump's campaign warn that the spread of such ideas may be only the beginning. The scorched-earth strategy Trump has adopted risks creating a lasting and bitter divide in American society, they say.
Historians, political scientists and other experts say the durability of Trump, what he proudly calls his movement and the extent of its impact, will depend heavily on the results of the election.

It is not.
The election day itself will see violence and disruption.
This is very dangerous ground and if/when Clinton wins, I fear what will happen.
In fact no matter WHO wins, it is frightening.

(4,750 posts)that someone or several someones in positions of prominence say out loud, ideally in a commercial citing Trump's own inflammatory language, "Donald Trump, if your supporters intimidate American citizens exercising their right to vote, if your supporters physically attack Hillary supporters, minorities, immigrants, or anyone you tell your supporters they can be comfortable oppressing and looking down upon: YOU ARE TO BLAME for every violence visited upon our fellow citizens. You are the cause of their criminal actions."

His fans will no doubt use it as a conspiracy source.

(31,801 posts)Trump is not required to be there. This is the third time this suit has been filed and I predict it will be quickly dismissed like the two other times.

(58,724 posts)Look at what those loons in Kansas had planned.
Glamrock
(11,781 posts)But those loons would have been there with or without Trump. IMHO. I refuse to run scared from these assholes. No amount of threats will cause me to vote for Trump. Period. With a dash of fuck em just for good measure.

(58,724 posts)Everything you say is correct.
I just am not pleased with the way these crazy people have been "normalized" and encouraged by Trump and his team.

(11,781 posts)No doubt, no doubt. And, for the record, I'm not arguing with you oberliner. I'm listening and I hear what you're saying. I think we will see a slight uptick in violence. Unfortunately, I think we'll also see a slight uptick in rape and sexual harassment. I think there will be more arrests of sovereign citizens, militia members, etc. I also think there will be a slight uptick in domestic terrorism. But, it's nothing we haven't been dealing with already.
Shit, if I had a $100 for every time I heard that someone should kill Obama, I'd be self funding my own presidential run! And, as we've seen proved time and time again, if you're dumb enough to vote for the Archie Bunker billionaire, you probably aren't smart enough to plan a crime. Besides, when it really gets down to it, these people are more inclined to bow down to tyranny and sign up for the dreaded Obamacare than have their children's school mortared/shelled. It's mostly just talk.
And, I hate to say it but, it's to be expected. This country is going through massive and rapid cultural change. Those that have been the power structure are going to lash out. No getting around it. Unfortunately, that's one of the costs of progress.
P. S. While that may have come across as sounding clinically detached, I realize that we're talking about peoples lives here. Some that will be extinguished. It's horrible. It makes me want to weep for my species. But I can't change the cost of progress.
