Why North Carolina Democrats Would Never Bomb Orange County GOP Office
October 17, 2016 1:17 am
When the Republican county headquarters in Hillsborough, NC, was firebombed over the weekend, local Democrats immediately condemned the attack, as did Hillary Clinton. But that didnt stop Donald Trump from affixing blame almost instantly on Twitter to Animals representing Hillary Clinton and Dems in North Carolina.
Why would Democrats in Orange County, North Carolina one of the most progressive and educated counties in the nation firebomb a local GOP office? The county thats home to the University of North Carolina, the up-scale city of Chapel Hill and is a neighbor to Durhams Duke University, votes overwhelmingly Democratic in every election. In 2012, when Mitt Romney defeated Barack Obama across North Carolina 50 percent to 48 percent, Obama trounced Romney with 70 percent of the vote in Orange County, where the GOP is a non-factor. Firebombing GOP headquarters there is not only illegal, its unnecessary: the local Republicans obliterated themselves there long ago.
Ive been in North Carolina a little less than one-week, working with the North Carolina Democratic Campaign Committee and Hillary Clintons campaign to educate rank-and- file North Carolina voters about becoming poll watchers to assure that voting rights are respected during the states early voting period, October 20 through November 5, and on Election Day, November 8. The volunteers streaming into training sessions from one end of the state to the other are high-minded and public-service oriented, with a deep commitment to make democracy work for all voters, regardless of party.
Mostly senior citizens, these civic-minded citizens are the models of dignity and decorum, concerned about issues like long lines at the polls, making sure accommodations are made for the disabled to vote, and concern over what constitutes intimidation in an open carry state, which allows voters to carry their guns to polling places. Many of the volunteers are retired school teachers, lawyers, small business owners, homemakers, or veterans with military service.

(11,589 posts)IT also seemed to answer a question I asked of my Husband: Why didn't they find out about the bombing until many hours later? It was almost as if no one knew that it was the office!

(1,254 posts)Lets consider some facts. The county where this campaign office resides is Democratic, therefore it would be a waste of money and resources to maintain this office. There have been reports the Trump campaign is running out of money and are pulling out of areas/states they can not maintain. So, instead of suffering embarrassing publicity that another campaign office is folding just as the Trump campaign is failing....why not kill two birds with one stone, close the campaign office via a fake fare/attack. Blame Democrats. Intensify the blame by claiming ballots were burned...there you have it, Democrats attempt to rig the election by causing ballots to burn. Most of Trumps ignorant voters won't understand that claiming to have ballots at a campaign office is a felony. Don't necessarily think this was planned at Trump's level, but certainly would not be surprised at state level.

(297,154 posts)I call bullshit on the repubs saying they had absentee ballots in there and I wanted you to see what I had to say about it.
No need for that! All good!

(2,034 posts)Do you honestly believe that they would get completed ballots at that office? That's not a state office.

(43,137 posts)would not have included the word "Republicans"
It would have been redundant from their point of view
So I'm thinking the word was included to falsely finger Democrats
or at least, based on the few facts reported in the press, that is how I see it

(41,959 posts)It's just not much like Hillsboro or any part of the Research Triangle. (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill but Hillsboro is right in there). The area isn't part of rural NC any more; it's a combination of old genteel and new progressives.
It's always possible some rogue malcontent did something but it really is rogue if there's any veracity at all.

Trump declared war on the GOP - why won't we take him and his followers at their word?
