Once a showcase of conservative audacity and teamwork, Wisconsin epitomizes the GOPs current confusion and turmoil over Donald Trump.
Its leading Republicans are in limbo, rendered mostly mute about Trump amid mounting allegations over his treatment of women. They arent recanting their support for their nominee. But they arent defending him or campaigning with him, either. The states top GOP officials will be absent when Trump holds a rally in Green Bay Monday.
The open breach between Trump and Wisconsins most popular Republican, House Speaker Paul Ryan, has come to symbolize the partys national disarray. The Trump-Ryan feud has left the Republican rank and file dumbfounded, said more than one GOP politician in the state.
One word I think describes the plight of their own doing, "toxic." -
