2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumSigh of Relief? / RE: Katy Tur
I hope MSNBC keeps her out of the Trump Pens from here on out. I do not think it will be safe for any of the reporters at Trump's rallies. But she was singled out by him in the past.
I hope MSNBC promotes her to an anchor position somewhere. She has definitely paid her dues this year.
Anyone else agree?
ReformedGOPer
(478 posts)probably assigned her to the campaign thinking Trump would be out of the race in the beginning. She deserves a medal.

(49,376 posts)Katie hung in there long enough. I'll give her credit for being a trooper.

(41,959 posts)She knows what's best for her, and I trust a tough woman to be able to make the right decision herself. She's made a reputation from being the eyes on Trump. To take her away now unless she asks would be to rob her of her hard won finish.
THEN let them promote her to a prominent position. She'll have certainly earned one.

(2,345 posts)It's her choice.
But she seems happy to report from the studio on varied topics.

(63,903 posts)These women do their jobs and you know that it isn't always that easy. It can be a hard slog out on the campaign trail. Lots of times the guys just don't want to do the heavy lifting. These women roll up their sleeves and do their job...

(24,221 posts)stay still in front of the info screen during her standing shot.
Not shifting or swaying is key to that part of the job.
Anchoring is about sitting and standing in uncomfortable upright positions that look correct on TV while smoothly delivering the info in a way that makes people think you're comfortable.
BROADCAST NEWS got it right so many years ago.

(28,795 posts)The Boys on the Bus, by Tim Crouse
http://www.npr.org/2012/04/19/150577036/boys-on-the-bus-40-years-later-many-are-girls
The rough-and-tumble account of the reporters who covered President Richard Nixon's re-election against George McGovern back in 1972 is part of a Morning Edition series on political history. The modern-day reporters who have read it include Jonathan Martin of Politico. "It just features a, you know, behind-the-scenes account of the boozing, the writing, the cavorting of what was then a largely male press corps," he tells NPR's Steve Inskeep.
"We're talking about typewriters, we're talking about one deadline a day," he adds, a dream situation for Martin and the two other political journalists who have gathered to discuss the book: Anne Kornblut of The Washington Post and Ashley Parker of The New York Times. Today's journalists say they now face endless deadlines, not just one. They also contend that they drink somewhat less than the guys in The Boys on the Bus.
read more about the women who are 'on the bus' today.....well, as of 2012. many more now
here's a load, though:
BS....pack journalism has never been worse than it is this round, as anyone who hangs here fully knows

(81,220 posts)She'd certainly be safer in the anchor chair. She earned this - the hard way!
I love to see hard work rewarded! She really paid her dues, and learned tons, and I found some of her questions absolutely FABULOUS! In particular - the time she was part of a TV panel where she beat back a Trump surrogate who was trying to set up another one of those false equivalence arguments in which it's just so damn lopsided you can't even begin to compare them on the same level. As she put it: "how is this equal? Please help me understand this. How are these two things equal?"
What's ALSO good about this was how she made it a question that can't get skated around with a yes-or-no answer. It demanded details. I find myself more and more impressed with her as I've watched.
And if you read her Marie Claire article, you'd really be impressed. She writes well, tells stories compellingly, and uses interesting details to do so. And she sure does ask a good question - objective, analytical, and really cuts through crap!
