The New Protesters Defying Donald Trump: His Customers

Hit him in the pocketbook!

The New Protesters Defying Donald Trump: His Customers

By MICHAEL BARBARO
OCT. 17, 2016

Morrie Gold is not a placard-waving political protester. He is a 69-year-old retired doctor in Pennsylvania.

But he recently participated in a quiet act of rebellion: He and 11 golfing buddies canceled their annual trip to a Florida resort owned by Donald J. Trump to express their disgust with his remarks about women, immigrants and minorities.

“For me,” Mr. Gold said, “it’s an ethical statement.”

Political demonstrations are alien to MBut when friends invited the 60-year-old and her husbargaret Riordan, too. “I’m just an old, white lady from Illinois,” she said. and to dinner inside Chicago’s Trump International Hotel and Tower, a one-woman boycott was born.

“Pick another place,” Ms. Riordan firmly told her friends. “By crossing that threshold, I’m saying Donald Trump’s O.K. I won’t do that.”

The reservation was canceled.

Across the country, voters alarmed by the tenor of Mr. Trump’s campaign and the emerging accounts of his personal conduct are engaging in spontaneous, unorganized and inconspicuous acts of protest that take direct aim at perhaps his most prized possession: his brand name.

In more than two dozen interviews, they described creative methods of punishing his economic empire and expunging the once-esteemed reminders of him from their lives, closets, golf bags and bookshelves over the past few months. They have thrown out — or cut up — Trump ties, called off stays at Trump hotels, even stopped imbibing Trump wines.

There will always be plenty of rich RWers ready to give them high-paying, relatively easy work. Consulting, speaking engagements, etc. Not to mention the poor folks who will contribute to their GoFundMes and similar.

In the long run, he will see a HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! downturn in his ...profits...People do not like his tone and attitude toward women and others. They will show their feelings in the one way that will hurt Trump the most...and it will be ugly...very ugly..for him and his family....and he deserves it...

which is odd for my husband. He's a reliable Dem but he'd never be caught at a protest and tries to ban political talk when we get together with my son. Doesn't work. We went to Thailand and the ONLY English TV channel in our hotel was Fox. We'd play this game, how long can we watch before one of us goes crazy and turns it off. He would leave the room. We'd make it 5 minutes at most.

The poor folks he's preyed upon, using their fear and ignorance to bolster his bid, cannot afford to stay in his hotels. And his uber rich friends that are as entitled and disgusting as he is are probably staying at even nicer hotels.

I've stayed at one of his hotels. I'm not rich by any means but I have enough disposable income to stay at decent hotels when I travel. It was many years ago, and the hotel itself was excellent. The staff was friendly and accommodating and the room was gorgeous. Clearly he had nothing to do with the interior design, based on what I've seen of his tacky-ass homes.

But now? Never. Wouldn't stay in a Trump hotel if the only other option was sleeping in my car. And I've had this discussion with many of those in my circle of friends and family who love to travel. Many have stayed at Trump properties in the past but wouldn't even consider it now.

He'll keep making money hand over fist off the poor suckers who will watch his bloviating television channel, but I think many of his other business ventures will fail. He's used to that though. He'll just declare bankruptcy and stiff all the people who actually do the work.

I don't shop at Walmart either. I'd do without first.

I hope the anti-Drumpf feelings continue after the election.
