Democrats in Iowa knocking on doors of GOP houses asking for women & being turned away by husbands

Still, there are signs her ground team is succeeding in peeling away rank-and-file Republicans in suburban neighborhoods even as the state’s GOP establishment remains in lockstep support of Mr. Trump.

Claire Celsi, a Democrat running for the Iowa state house from West Des Moines, recalled approaching a Republican house and finding the man who lived there working in his garage.

The man told her he and his wife weren’t interested in speaking to a Democrat. When Ms. Celsi returned to her car, she called the house and spoke to the man’s wife—who said she is crossing party lines and voting for her and Mrs. Clinton this year.

“There’s a lot of men who answer the door and speak for their wives,” Ms. Celsi said. “When I do get to talk to a woman, they say Trump is unacceptable” because of his disparaging remarks about women and immigrants.

Husbands would be downright rude while wives managed to convey...that yes they were voting for Obama.

Two steps back following the husband.

Which is yet another reason to be an atheist.

Bubba has a license to be an abuser based on the Bible and turn their head law enforcement.

It's all about power and control. (and beer)

United States of Shame map:

Nebraska has the highest rate of violence against females.

Trust me, the paternalistic, misogynistic, attitude of ownership that breeds violence and poses a daily threat to the lives of Nebraska women is found alive and well in the neighboring state of Iowa.

he says don't call back. We put them on the list of people "to call back." We want to hear it from her, not him. He does not speak for her.

Many families are split. But in Dem families, the entire family is democratic.

I am a Democratic committee woman and during petition season have had a least 6 experiences where husbands have refused to let their wives sign. That behavior, I an afraid, is not limited to red states.

I once stood up and said that she should fill her ballot anyway she wants to and he went off on me. He is a total wingnut who spends all of his time consuming right-wing hate media. He and some of my other Republican uncles make family gatherings awful because if you dare to disagree with them they go absolutely ape and will ruin the whole day.

tables in Iowa the morning of November 9th.

The man Ms. Celsi spoke with told her his wife wasn't "interested in speaking to a Democrat." Meaning, he forbade her to express her own citizenship by individual voting preference. Meaning he would do the talking and control the voting in her behalf?

But it doesn't work that way. His wife can step into the voting booth and vote for whomever she pleases. She can tell her husband she voted for Hillary Clinton or not, as she wishes.

And he can pretty much cram it if he doesn't like it.

If current polling holds, his wife's instinct to support the Democratic ticket will be replicated by a big majority nationwide. Her husband doesn't speak for any of those people either.
