2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumStatistically speaking, it is over
Yes, yes we all still have to go vote, but here are the reasons I have zero worry now about this election:
- A comeback by Trump at this point would be literally unprecedented. He is down by too much with too few opportunities left to flip 1 out of every 10 voters
- Analysis of early voting returns show Trump underperforming Romney pretty much across the board and horrifically behind 2012 early voting in the majority of battleground states. These aren't polls, these are actual returns
-The behavior of the candidates. Clinton is confident, calm, collected and is now making appearances to bolster down ticket races. Trump is sullen, grumpy and openly contemplating what losing means to him. Moreover, he is appearing in areas to rally his base and not expand it...a really bad sign this close to the election
Do your civic duty, but, truly, the presidential race is all over but the voting. Now it is about making 2016 a wave by retaking at least one chamber of Congress.

(5,810 posts)We voted a couple of weeks ago by absentee ballots and I went on line and tracked our ballots to see that they were received at the Supervisor of Elections office. I love voting by mail! You can take your time filling out the ballot, no lines, no waiting. On a couple of issues we had researched the proposed changes to our state Constitution and knew in advance how we'd vote....against! Thank goodness we had the time and means to check them out.....as some of them were so sneaky in their wording that they actually sounded like the opposite of what they were really about!!

(16,104 posts)If Trump won just one state, this would be it.
Every election, we go down and do our civic duty to exercise our right to vote and be heard - regardless of anticipated outcomes.
I'll go with a spring in my step knowing Hillary will win, and that piss-ant Trump is a loser, but we have state and local candidates and issues that are contested, so it is never about just the top of the ticket.
I live in Montgomery, which altogether leans Democratic. Our city is gerrymandered to 3 Congressional districts now (after 2010) so the city is represented by the lone Congressional Democrat from Alabama and two rightwing Republicans, including the infamous Martha Roby. We have a Democrat running to take her place.
And we have many local Democrats to support.
It's over for the presidency , but the war goes on!

(45,427 posts)and lots of state and local elections too. President Hillary needs a congress who will actually do their jobs and not just obstruct everything.

You could even argue it has been known since 2008 who the next president would be in 2017.
