My Visit to the Trump Dump.... Sorry, Trump Tower (scathing article, with photos)

From Nell Scovell at Esquire -- and please go to the link, read all of this and check out the photos of the Trump Dump:

http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a49868/trump-tower-what-a-dump/

Trump Tower is no ordinary property: It is the jewel in Donald Trump's brass crown. He lives at the top in a three-story penthouse with his third wife and third son. But it's more than just Trump's home. With its flashy outward image barely concealing a rotting, garbage-filled core, it's a metaphor for the man. A visit to the building' public gardens, which he agreed to create in 1979 in exchange for the rights to make his Tower 20 floors higher, reveals the truth. Let's take a stroll through his messy rest stop for a glimpse of the kind of care and attention that Americans can expect from a President Trump.

-snip-

A quick glance at the ground floor building directory provides the first sign that something is awry. It lists… nothing. There is literally no there there.

-snip-

The fifth floor public garden is actually open. Over the course of many visits there this fall, I never saw more than a smattering of visitors. In September there was a man conspicuously hiding behind the large tree planters. He appeared to be waiting for the opportunity to pee. That's pretty much the vibe.

-snip-

Here's a closer look of Mr. Trump's garbage. It's been in that public space since early September, around the time when Trump declared in Greenville, N.C., "This is our chance to solve all of the problems that have gone unsolved for so many years." One problem jumps to mind that could be solved in a few minutes by a quick trip to the dumpster.

-snip-

Leaving the public garden, I headed to the lower level and passed the Trump Grill, where the door to the pantry was open. Stainless steel appliances are, as Trump would say, the best. They are tremendous. But they are a little more expensive than regular white, so what do you do? Theoretically, you put a stainless-steel sticker sheet over the white and fool someone into thinking they are seeing "the actual best." Sure, eventually the veneer will peel off and reveal the con, but let some other sap worry about the future.

It doesn't seem to have many tenants either.

Trump is a fraud. He probably has negative net worth. I bet we see at least one more bankruptcy before the end of 2017.

We're seeing in real time the destruction of a "brand", if you can call it that. To me "Trump" has always been as synonymous with tacky as anything you could possibly think of. Worse than Elvis on black velvet, if you can imagine that.

Of course, most Republicans think things like restaurant inspections are totally unnecessary, just another example of overreaching government.

that all those who oppose regulations would suffer the consequences of no regulations. Like getting food poisoning at a restaurant. Not enough to kill, that would be wrong, but enough to make them VERY sick for several weeks.

If you have ever read anything about food and water in the 19th century you'll know that such government interference is a good thing. Milk was commonly adulterated with flour and plaster of paris. Read up on Swill Milk to learn more.

Water in places like NYC was visibly loaded with grit. Invisibly with deadly micro-organisms.

We live in a vastly safer place thanks to all those evil government regulations.

A side note. The reason anti-vaccers can take advantage of herd immunity is precisely because of all of the many rules, regulations, and laws over the years that have made so many immune to so many diseases. Of course, herd immunity isn't perfect, as they sometimes learn to their great distress.

It's frightening the way Trump specifically has claimed he wants to do away with regulations and inspections...and, again, it's for purely selfish reasons. He wouldn't have to worry about any more pesky lawsuits when people die from salmonella poisoning at his restaurant (as happened in 1989).

(from the article you linked):

But this May, another ungraded inspection found “live roaches present in [the] facility’s food and/or non-food areas” of the Trump Cafe and Grill and determined that the restaurant was not “vermin proof,” meaning that there were “conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist.” One week prior to that inspection, Trump had tweeted a picture of himself eating a taco bowl prepared in that restaurant. Yum.

The kitchen equip has stainless stickers over white appliances, because what is shown here is the opposite. SS appliances have a white peelable protective sheet on them to keep them from being scratched during load/unload/install. A miss like that can damage credibility of rest and its a great story.

Some of that shit is legit reason for a lawsuit.

While I don't doubt you can find anything in a tower or skyscaper it's worth it's weight in gold for the narrative you can build.

Let's see Trump have his own Kitchen Nightmares reality show in his own Towers.

My husband and I recently spent a week in that part of the country and managed to carve out enough time to spend one day in NYC. I enjoyed the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and especially the Ground Zero and 9/11 Memorial (a "must see" for anyone who has an opportunity!). My husband, a Trump supporter, coerced us into taking a photo of him in front of the Trump Building. I pointed out that it wasn't the Trump Tower and he said he wanted to go there. Well, we ran out of time (oops ), but I think I'm going to have to go ahead and book a longer trip there so he gets to visit his guy's place.

Getting Old! I have heard from others that, aside from being tall, Trump Towers was only impressive from the outside, not that you could see much of the inside. Much older famous skyscrapers in other cities seem to be maintained much more beautifully. Again, not a first hand observation, just one I've heard several times.

There's no general code that states the direction in which you have to mount outlets. You can mount them either way vertically. As a matter of fact, I had a look at one of the GFCI install examples, and the text for the buttons is written both up and down, so if you did mount them 'upside down', the text orientation would still be correct.
