Trump booster Alex Jones: I’m not anti-Semitic, but Jews run an evil conspiracy

Trump booster Alex Jones: I’m not anti-Semitic, but Jews run an evil conspiracy
Updated by Zack Beauchamp@zackbeauchampzack@vox.com Oct 26, 2016, 12:20p

Radio host Alex Jones is a big Trump fan — and Trump, for his part, has returned the favor. In December, he went on Jones’s show, telling the host, “your reputation is amazing” and promising him that “I will not let you down.”

Given that Jones is one of America’s foremost conspiracy theorists, who has been accused of sowing racial and anti-Semitic fears before, that was almost certainly a mistake. Jones proved it on the latest edition of The Alex Jones Show, aired on Tuesday, when he blamed America’s ills on “the Jewish mafia.”

“They run Uber, they run the health care, they’re going to scam you, they’re going to hurt you,” he said, per Media Matters.

I hate it so much when people say that kind of thing. You can't declare yourself to not be a racist and then continue on to say racist stuff. Saying you are not a racist doesn't mean you aren't one. I'm not crook, except I did all this illegal stuff. I'm not sexist, but I don't think a woman should be president. The "I'm not a ..., BUT ..." thing is right up there with "Tells it like it is" as my least favorite sayings.

It can be because they are the "Some of my best friends are..." type, the "I don't fit the definition I created for anti-Semitism" type, or the "I can't be anti-Semitic because I am only saying the truth, and the truth isn't bigoted" type. Those are the most common ones, and it certainly explains why many people couldn't spot anti-Semitism even if it was a big ass poster with a horned, big nosed caricature emblazoned with a Star of David somewhere on the poster that said "Passover is coming. Hide your Children!" There would still be those who wouldn't "find" it anti-Semitic.
