Comey's letter on "reopening" email indicates following protocol not "We've found something awful!"

Unrelated case being investigated found some previously unseen emails

New emails being examined for classified into and pertinence to email server investigation

No indication material is significant

-----

Not re-examining or reinterpreting previous info or even officially opening the case again. Just following protocol due to previously unexamined emails.

Whatever.

Actual Comey letter is here:

If he had waited, say three weeks, and it turns out there was something actually "wrong" in the emails, the very first question he'd face is "when were you made aware of these emails?" Has to inform when he was informed.

I don't like Comey, at all, and there is little chance we're going to see nuanced analysis by the media. But, I do not fault this notification, and the language he used, if he was truly notified by the investigative team in the past 24 hours.

And I don't think this changes the trajectory of the election. It reinforces the views of those who think she is a criminal, but they already were not voting for her. And emails have been in the news for so long that undecideds who would be influenced by them probably already have been.

No he doesn't have to issue a virtual press release when he finds out there's a lead to chase.

I can guarantee you now that Trump wins Ohio and Iowa. There's nothing that will cause undecideds to break towards Clinton and the early vote metrics in those states already indicate greatly depressed Democratic turnout compared to 2012.

This also shines a new light on Comey's peculiar announcement that she wasn't being prosecuted in the first place. Do you think he was ordered not to recommend charges contrary to his own recommendation, so gave that damning speech to paint her as badly as he could without prosecution.

Of course, that would lead right back to the horrible optics of Bill's ill-conceived meeting with A.G. Lynch in her plane on the tarmac a couple of days before Comey's announcement. It's so f**king frustrating.

I don't get all the hair-on-fire reporting on MSNBC! The Clinton campaign needs to get out there and explain this right F-ing now. The trump campaign is already jumping on and distorting it.

Kasie Hunt is explaining it pretty well though.

purchase a fire extinguisher, aim it at their hair and pull the handle. Yes, the GOP will try to spin it and the media will oversimplify it. But the investigation itself is not being reopened; all the letter says is that some other emails were discovered and they are being reviewed. Considering that the FBI does not move quickly, this story will be a big whoop for a day or two and then the media will start chasing the next shiny object, which will probably have to do with Trump groping yet another woman.

Keep calm and carry on.

Everyone needs to calm down. This is NOT an indictment or even a "re-opening" of the previous case (it's been mischaracterized by the repugs as such).

Comey, by law, has to review the new emails.

Of course, Drumpf is going to make some hay out of it. But his fate has been sealed.

She will still win.

They're running about 4-to-1 or greater in favor of "can't believe the media is still pushing this," "I'm tired of this," "I already voted for her," "I am voting for her anyway," "What about Bush's deleted e-mails," and so on.

People overestimate the reach and influence of the 24-hour news networks. This will be a "story" for about a day, nothing will come of it, and no American citizen cares about Hillary's e-mails. Election impact: none. The major impact will be here on DU, where concern trolls will reappear and a number of other posters - who've already started in - will show visible signs of panic instead of just thinking things through rationally or, better yet, getting out and voting or phone banking for downballot candidates.
