2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumThis needs to be dealt with NOW by Clinton campaign. This could easily sway the election and huge
partisan issue with the republicans are going insane with statements. The Clinton team needs to hit this hard as it is fucking ridiculous. The way CNN is reporting this is incredibly damaging and I can't even imagine Fox. CNN is saying this is "extraordinary," etc -- all bad. They need to spin Comey and his shit NOW -- argue that this is an attempt to sway the election which is fucking insane.

(5,611 posts)and I am absolutely not a "concern" poster. The media coverage will be nonstop, and the campaign needs to deal with it head on and hard. And yes I certainly do think it might sway undecided voters.

(68,868 posts)The FBI director has the emails, is in complete control of the timeline and the narrative.
He's doing his best to get Donald Trump elected.
All they can do is come up with their best oppo drop on Trump, and then fire Comey's ass when they get elected.

(45,806 posts)It would look like Obama was trying to help Hillary hide something. Let the story play out then let Hillary replace Comey with a less partisan individual!

(44,058 posts)Also I may be naive but idiot media has a short attention span. Trump will do something insane, and as you say, more oppo drops to come.

(1,493 posts)Even if we're not terribly concerned, the MSM is having a heyday over this. I'm kind of in agreement that the Clinton team needs to say something (even if obliquely) to stop the spin chatter.

(5,737 posts)Lest we forget that he did it at the urging of members of Congress. Just how did that happen? Has Trumpland already happened? When does Congress decide who is investigated by the FBI, which is under the Justice Dept? This stinks more than their first investigation.

There is NO THERE THERE and there never has been. It is yet another manufactured scandal perpetrated by RW toadies.

(25,117 posts)If I was Clinton, I would be all over this personally with the FBI, then she can respond to the public.
ETA: If the FBI was investigating me, I would want to know all the details. I believe she has every right to know. Especially since Comey is announcing this publicly.

It's a punt to get the Trumpen Proletariat off his back
But instead it will give them a lazer dot to chase for the next week instead of focusing on some kind of campaign strategy
It's a gift for Clinton really

which do you think is going to take greater hold in voters' minds?
Look, no one here is contesting the facts -- look closely, and you see there's no there there. But the Clinton campaign cannot let the initial narrative be the one that sinks in, or it will be Goebbels's lie that, repeated often enough, becomes "the truth."

(7,480 posts)The New York Times and Newsweek have both come out to say it's a non story. It's a lot more than one tweet from one person if you bothered to actually look.

(6,972 posts)From Comey
My friend said Comey Rick-Rolled the Media and GOP.
I wouldn't go that far, seeing as Comey is a Rethug and a fame-seeking idiot. However, there's a big fat NOTHING BURGER with these NEW emails. I noticed that CNN is doing a major walk back now from saying initially when the news broke that this could be a game-changer in the election to uh
Yeah, I can ONLY imagine what's going on over on MSNBCRNCTMZ, with tRump, and the rest of the LOSERS KellyAnne et al.

Carville had a "rapid response team" to get the facts out immediately and make sure their side of the story was front-and-center in the public consciousness. Does HRC not have a similar team? This (including the fact that partisan House Republicans misreported the initial news) should have been dealt with already, IMHO
before the evening news begins airing.

Comey needs to provide full info immediately. Otherwise he has clearly made a partisan intervention, betraying his office.
