(52,126 posts)and presidential interference with fbi investigations harkens an ugly history and would paint this nonsense a whole different color.
at least, that's certainly not a conversation to be had just before an election....

(16,104 posts)like the US Attorney General and the President of the United States, I would run my actions by them before I went and did something - I know what insubordination is.
Jason Chaffetz is not the FBI Director's boss.
Grounds for immediate termination.

(52,126 posts)as a practical matter, the president can't just fire the fbi director.
in fact, i don't think the president can even legally do that, except for cause. and unless the "cause" is clear-cut, it could become politically problematic. it looks bad to fire the director of the fbi for political reasons, any firing that happens right about now would look like political payback even if there is cause.

Giving Comey another pass cause it might look bad?

(52,126 posts)sure, it's probably a good time to go over comey's expense reports with a fine-tooth comb, but actually firing him is something better left to obama's last few days. not in the midst of a political controversy.
yallerdawg
(16,104 posts)because it would be a "controversy."
No problem with what he has done again to Hillary?
More speculation and innuendo - from the freakin' Director of the FBI?

(52,126 posts)i'd love to see him out of that position, i just want done discreetly.
best would be if he can be fired for cause.
second best would be if lynch would fire him, without any visible involvement of obama or clinton.
and in any event, at least a month after the election.

(146,262 posts)However, the President can demand a full briefing immediately, including the reason a notification of this was sent at this time to a Republican legislator. The President can require such a briefing, a discussion, and can make his displeasure known. The President can also release details of such a briefing if he chooses.
Don't underestimate the power of the President in such matters.

(19,948 posts)Enough trouble. The rest of the Party must express their outrage though, and keep the pressure up on Comey. He's so badly mishandled this, he may have no option but to go himself.

(146,262 posts)He knows that. However, he still reports to the President and serves at his pleasure. If I were Obama, I'd want to have a chat with him soonest.
