2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI've tried watching cable to get news...
But all I get is outrageous garbage!
In the mornings ( Pacific time ), after reading here and there a bit, I routinely bravely tune into the Cable news (CNN & MNSBC), for a few minutes to find out what they're all talking about.
I'm sorry to report that I haven't been able to watch cable news for longer than one minute on each of those two channels. Not only have they worked to normalize Donald Trump as someone actually worthy of the office of president, but now, it appears that Hillary Clinton will have to win this race despite them.
In other words, they are lying in our faces, and I am able to figure this out by not watching anymore than one minute of programming for cable channel each day.
The media is not our friend, and apparently they really don't give a shit about the truth. It is quite frightening!

(68,867 posts)Having an actual conscience apparently does not come into play, as they report what they know it's false! I guess the GOP producers decide early in the day what tone will be set, and which news stories will be reported And I guess reporters consider themselves as the good Germans!

(68,867 posts)As it helps keep my blood pressure down. But still, television coverage does have quite a bit of sway with the masses, and it's obviously programmed to work in the favor of racism and misogyny! that's truly sadistic!

(58,785 posts)cheap names, who themselves come on as instant "experts" to pump up their personal brands and careers and/or marketability as speakers. Lots of the young ones fall in this group, and of course the discussion is inane.
Others are older, once-impressive names who've dwindled into hacks selling books or, again, keeping their speaking fees pumped up by not letting their names fade away. Both Woodward and Bernstein are among those. They both reward conservative shows for having them on to sell their current books by claiming that H's emails remind them of Watergate (!).
Who you don't see spending hour after hour on various inane, low-pay shows through the week are the real movers and shakers. The real experts in what's going on.
Those who want real information understand that's to be found in written media, with only the tiniest, most shallow fraction finding its way onto the screen, that fraction inevitably distorted beyond recognition by being dumbed down into a couple of sentences or catchy phrases.

(58,785 posts)What and how they choose to cover is a huge influence. And, yes, tons of garbage today. Struck me as worse than usual, sort of chaotic, with attitudes and claims from all over the place.

(297,123 posts)Like President Obama.. he won twice in spite of the M$M manipulative, manufactured "news".. and subsequently went to all kinds of alternative news sources to get his message out.
And, the "media" whined.
I cut cable and all corp "news" in 2002.
It's worse now with them doing their damnedest to normalize an admitted sexual predator, a flaming racist, bigoted sociopathic, pathological liar.. while raging on Hillary's emails..
What in the hell kind of media****** are these?

(37,364 posts)have sane media outlet which would provide facts and represent the left with accuracy is always shot down by people on the left. Look at Air America. We don't need versions of Clear Channel. We need a representation of a range of viewpoints not skewed by one of the big media conglomerates. It is still my fondest hope that we can that one day.
