2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumfirst, a panic attack this morning, then my face turned bright red, now I just finished retching
( just water) and another red face. This election must have gotten to me physically as well as emotionally. Waking up thinking the election was over and Trump was our new president will do that to you...
I'm OK now and having a glass of wine. But I'm still going to eat lightly tonight...

(102,102 posts)So, I'm trying to figure out how to get through election night without drinking, get at least SOME sleep, and generally not become a total basket case.
I guess I am going to have to do one of my mega walks the evening before, listening to NPR, or on the treadmill, watching tv. I'm not really sure that either approach will burn off the stress sufficiently...
Oh, my...

(323 posts)That's the most important thing, first and foremost. And trust that the campaign knows what they're doing. If you can GOTV, that's helped me as well. Peace. 😊

(58,785 posts)to help works for me. So does turning off the TV, closing the laptop, and going out to trim shrubs and trees so they're be in good shape for their spring growth, which is what I did today.
Take care, CT.

(4,104 posts)I've been chanting for months that Hillary will get exactly what she needs to win. I feel very confident about Tuesday night!
DUer's will really need each other after Tuesday; that's when the real lunacy begins. These vermin on the right are like a famished T-Rex.

Get away from the TV and computer as if they were poison. Go for a walk or a drive, anything to mix things up in a pleasant way. Hang in there!!

(11,243 posts)I am doing canvassing, etc, just to take my mind off of the anxiety. Only thing that is going to touch the anxiety for me at this point in the game is GOTV. I have basically lost my appetite too I haven't felt this sick about a presidential election since 2004. I do think we are going to win this one, but Trump is so unbelievably bad. I feel like we are having a weird, funhouse election in another dimension. At any moment, I expect to hear the Twilight Zone theme. At least with Romney and McCain, they seemed sane.

(11,243 posts)I kinda knew we were losing but didn't have the sophistication to understand polling and trends yet so I told myself lies to feel better. I learned a lot from that election. The hard way
This one is objectively better from a polling standpoint. It is just the complete dreadfulness of Trump that is making me sick.

(25,816 posts)I hope we get control of the Senate to get our Supremes in OK. But the bile
stirred up, exposed in it's ugliness by the Trump campaign, will remain. The
obstruction that Obama experienced will continue. There will be no real rest
from the struggle against the idiots. But we will have our first woman POTUS.
And we will have shelved Trump into a footnote of obscurity.

(348 posts)Horrible, raging anxiety. Couldn't eat either.
I ended up laying flat on my back in silence for an hour. Then I mustered up strength to do phone banking. I hate talking to strangers, so that is hard for me anyway.
Now I've got anxiety and a headache again. Two of my girlfriends also reported similar issues today. One lives in blue Illinois, another in red Indiana. We all need this to be over ASAP on Tuesday night night. Waiting for returns will be brutal.

(12,448 posts)From the article:
This isn't to say that we have to be complacent. Complacency and confidence are different animals. Complacency breeds mistakes. Confidence energizes you, making you work to make sure you win.
Our long national nightmare is almost at an end, and Madam President seems on her way to a victory. (Plus all indications are that Democrats will retake the Senate.) Now is the time for a quiet confidence that we are hearing the last gasps of a dying beast. Now is the time to get to work and continue rebuilding our country to make it better than when we found it.

IMHO we always need to think a little further as to what others are/might be experiencing.

Take a few drops of Rescue Remedy or Rock Rose.
Drink a nice glass of wine - but not too much or you won't rest well, and you'll feel awful the next day.
I don't want any of you coming down with Shingles or some other stress-related disease.

Probably best to log out of DU if you're that overwrought. Lots of pessimism here lately.
Most importantly, remember that worry never ever helped anything, and it never will.
