(18,318 posts)Fortunately, the move to legalize now-illegal drugs is gaining strength, so this method of repression (brilliantly executed by Erlichman and Nixon to jail millions of YBMs and anti-war activists) is faltering.
It would be wise to keep tabs of the Posse Comitatus Act, as this was very briefly neutralized by BushCo and Congress, post-Katrina. The provisions of the Act were restored quickly and everyone went back to murmuring that it was just a BackBurner© issue.

The concern for activists is that they may be singled out for public opprobrium, and then arrested as a signal to others that they should expect the same. This kind of public, official display of repression was little used up to now, save in the Civil Rights struggle. Hence, the use of the WOD as a proxy tool. But now, the FR has succeeded in convincing the public (and many Democrats) that liberal/activists are easily cowed, so a more personal, swaggering method might do the trick.
