2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAnd in a confusing turn of events, Debbie Wasserman Schultz
won her reelection bid by 16 percentage points. My democratic congresswoman won, too, with over 60% of the vote. Not all Democrats lost their elections. Just not enough of them won to regain control of the Senate.
All is not lost. We've just made a right turn when going left was the right choice. Maybe the GPS mapping was wrong. Maybe Google Maps showed the wrong direction on people's print-out. I don't know.

(146,254 posts)At the legislative district level, national trends don't always predict outcomes, at both the state and federal level.
The presidential race is a different sort of thing, as we have just seen.

I know she just got reelected. I do not know her positions on every issue, though. I see that someone who does just answered your question.
We need Democrats in the House, so I'm glad she won.

(2,859 posts)U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Weston, who has taken heat for her opposition to medical marijuana, quietly took a vote in favor of it last week.
In 2014, she opposed Floridas constitutional amendment to allow medical marijuana a rare position for a South Florida Democrat that led to a spat between her and wealthy trial lawyer John Morgan, who bankrolled the amendment. A similar measure will appear on the ballot in November.
In the past, as a Democrat in a safe liberal district, Wasserman Schultz faced no political repercussions at the ballot box for taking a position out of step with her constituents. But criticism about her stances carry more weight this year because she faces a well-funded Democratic challenger: Tim Canova, who supports medical marijuana.
