Still find myself struggling to accept this news.

Like with any terrible momentus news I'm still finding myself daily walking around in a state of shock. I think I've accepted it and then I read the news about some new way in which this is all such a clusterfuck, be it news of Trumps appointments or some other realisation, and I'm right back to feeling numb. I'm not even American, live in Canada thankfully, but I follow global news and politics closely. The fallout from this will be global, like it was with Bush, only I fear much worse.

I am a feminist and I use it all the time.

American militarily-derived slang that is similar is SNAFU and FUBAR

swung from Trump to her, that is not a thing, unfortunately, to wish for. You WILL have a raging civil war on your hands, make no doubt of that.

I am deadly serious, millions will violently revolt, and the Armed Forces may side with them.

Every time I do, the words "This country is fucking insane" escapes my mouth.

I'm incredulous.

I'm going to tune out federal government for the next 1.5 years until we can run again.

The man has the vocabulary of a 3rd grader, and his staff picks are nuts. This will be a very bad 4 years, we took 8 steps backwards and the worst part is Republicans will control all 3 branches.

Affecting me deeply. No explanation of how this outcome came about makes any sense whatsoever. i fully understand the concept of denial, but I have an unshakable gut feeling that this process was hijacked, and that the results as we see them are illegitimate.

the same as 2000.

That year, I was distraught, dismayed, depressed - but actually recall saying, in order to cheer myself up, "How much damage can be done in 4 years? We'll survive, and in 4 start righting the ship again."

Well, I found out just how much damage could be done, but that has no bearing on how I feel now.

This time, I have real terror. And there is not one cell of me that believes I will see this be righted in my lifetime, and that the damage could take a generation to repair. Yes, I'm that pessimistic. What sort of country will emerge I don't know.

That said, I'm doing in minute ways what I can to fight back in the midst of despair, and hope the fight within me can gather steam.

In 2000 you could at least fool yourself quite easily into believing that people had elected a clown and a buffoon out of a form of blind indifference. "I don't like either candidate, and I'm traditionally a republican, I don't see that much different so I'll vote for Bush". All of the fallout was really post 9/11.

But this time Trump actually RAN on a fascist and xenophobic platform from the very beginning. Meaning if you voted for him, you were at least OK with electing a fascist, xenophobic, racist dictatorial type. Even if you didn't see yourself in that light.

So yes I agree this time things are MUCH FUCKING DARKER. Because this time all the fucking WORST cards were on the table and people till went for them

14. I am so upset that I have seriously considered moving
Sat Nov 19, 2016, 07:09 AM

to Hawaii.

I joked with my husband last spring that if Trump won, he'd better expect we'd be on a plane to investigate moving to Kauai.

Well, a week ago I had the first two weeks in December lined up, flights lined up, condos identified in two different parts of the island
for a 2 week trip to take a serious look. Then I realized I was being crazy to think that at our ages--74 for him and 65 for me--this was an option
after we've spent years getting ourselves in a position to be able to retire comfortably where we are, which is in a blue county (Orange County) of
a purple/red state of North Carolina.

Then Trump started making appointments of these hateful white supremacists and I went right back to wanting to flee to a tropical
island in the middle of the ocean in a state where all counties voted blue (only two states did: Massachusetts and Hawaii). So I was
back on-line again last night looking at cost of living comparisons between where we are--Chapel Hill, NC--and locations on Kauai. Of course,
rationality took over. It would be a huge cost difference for us--OR--we'd have to take a big cut in our standard of living just to relocate
to an environment where I'd rather be. It just doesn't make sense.

But that's a sign of how awful this guy is that it makes you want to flee.

On the other hand, we have encouraged our older son and his partner who would be targets of hate groups--because they are gay--to think seriously about getting out of the country.
They are young enough and skilled enough to probably be able to make that kind of move. And they are thinking seriously about at least relocating to a blue state.
