Sanders: Election not a victory for Trump, loss for the Democratic Party

Bernie Sanders in San Rafael: Democratic elite to blame for Trump victory
Richard Halstead
Marin Independent Journal

“I look at this election not as a victory for Mr. Trump, who wins the election as the most unpopular candidate in perhaps the history of our country,” Sanders said. “But as a loss for the Democratic Party.”

“There are a lot of people in our country who are hurting and they are hurting very, very badly,” Sanders said.” The political establishment is not hearing their pain; the financial and economic establishment could care less about their lives; and the media establishment is not dealing with the reality of their lives; and along comes Mr. Trump.”

But Sanders said voters who believed Trump when he told them he was going to make their lives better are going to be disappointed.

“So what we have to do,” Sanders said, “is create a strong grassroots movement where we bring people together to fight not only for social justice, not only for environmental justice, but for economic justice as well.

who badmouthed the party for decades and threatened to primary our president? The current one that is.

I always felt bad for DWS for having to refer to Sanders as a "Democrat" during the primary.

As a former Dean delegate I and other Dean supporters didn't act like a babies when he lost nor did we call Kerry supporters shitty names for months.

Disgraceful are caucuses - and I am thrilled my blue state that Hillary won overwhelmingly in the GE also voted to rid this state of suppressing caucuses. 127,000 turnout in a state w/ over 1 million registered Democrats is disgraceful but Sanders had no problem with disenfranchising millions as long as he won did he?

No because they have a right to run in a primary and there is no party registration in Vermont and he has backed traditional Democratic policies for decades, what is more important, party or policy?

Two, are you counting Bernie Sanders' wins as legitimate and not Hillary Clinton's, and if so, cite evidence for that dismissal of one set of data versus another.

Three, what disenfranchisement are you speaking of? Cite concrete examples, data.

It's statements like this that encapsulates why as a Dem, I can't get behind Sanders. Does he mean Planned Parenthood because that was part of "the establishment" according to him in the primaries? Does he mean President Obama and our congressional leaders like James Clyburn, who have fought hard for legislation to better the lives of others? I expect this type of broad generalization and dismissal of democratic policies from the Republican party, but as someone who has worked closely with the "political establishment" in his long career, he should know the nuances of an argument. The notion that for 8 years, Barack Obama hasn't fought for varying forms of economic and environmental justice is straight up bullshit. Is it Bernie's specific proposals? No and therefore, it's dismissed as rubbish.

I very rarely say anything negative about Bernie because on many levels I still respect him and agree with much of what his message is, but I'm sick to DEATH of hearing him say that Dems were too elitist, and that Dems should have thrown their own loyal base of voters over the side just to kiss the asses OF and appeal TO the deplorables (tRump voters) just so they'd vote for Hillary/Dems. Those idiots obviously didn't see nor care to see that that tRump hates the regular working man/women because there's more than enough evidence to show that he LOVED stiffing them even for work DONE these many years, and there's also ample evidence to show that he's a racist POS, because he and his KKK loving Daddy was sued by the Federal Government under Nixon for not renting to African-Americans. And as for elitism, did his deplorables NOT even bother to see that their Mango Birther Mussolini lived in a golden tower/penthouse apartment with his birther, mail order bride and kid in Manhattan?

No, There was no WAY that those racist POS who voted for that racist, ignorant, orange, p***y-grabbing POS were going to hear ANYTHING Dems were saying to them because amongst other things, they were filled with too much hatred, rage and and racist bile, and many of them expressed that they were happy to be voting Kenyan, Marxist, Muslim, N-word Obummer out of the WH, along with his ape in heels wearing wife Michelle--yeah, throw out the whole family of monkeys--just so a racist, p***y-grabbing, sexual assaulting POS could move his nude, girl on girl picture taking birther wife and kid in (I hear that they won't be living in the White House--they'll be living in Manhattan in their golden tower most of the time). NOPE, they were either too dumb, evil, ignorant or all 3 and were bound and determined to vote for tRump. Falling hook, line, and sinker for his lies and racist diatribes. Yes, many of those POS who were STILL yelling "Lock her up" at his Hitler-inspired victory Rally in Cincinnati this past week, and those also STILL yelling "tRump that b***h" during his STOLEN post-election win WILL get what they deserve when they return to states like MI. and PA. which thanks to the influence of ALEC and the GOP will be right-to-work states (Just like WI is now) only to find that that YUUUUGE job market Mango promised them isn't THERE and is never coming BACK. He'll blame it on Obummer the N-word and they'll believe him. SMDH.

I HATE that those of us who have actual brains who knew the issues and who voted correctly will suffer right along with those deplorable POS because they helped vote that racist POS into the presidency. I could care LESS about what those others will GET in the end, because they weren't caring about US or whether we had jobs, insurance etc. Nope, to hell with them and the racist, dumb, POS horse they bet ON.

And then there's this little gem:

The event, held in Dominican University’s Angelico Hall in conjunction with Corte Madera’s Book Passage, was designed to promote Sanders’ new book, “Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In.” Sanders barely mentioned the book, however. As he did during his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, Sanders concentrated instead on the issue that has energized him throughout his political career: economic inequality. He said he doesn’t believe that all of the people who voted for Trump are racists or sexists or homophobes.

“I don’t believe that at all,” Sanders said. “I think a lot of people ended up holding their noses and voting for Trump because they are in pain.”

Oh but these people who are in "pain" tossed historically oppressed POC, Women's reproductive rights and LGBT's right under the fucking bus? Because they're in pain? Not buying what you're selling Bernie.

Now some of these threads in DU make more sense to me though--I was all like, "where the fuck did THAT come from"? --why it came from the man himself, Bernie Sanders

Some of us are already tracking increasing incidences of bigotry directly related to this election.

Establishment (special rate if repeated more than ten times in one speech/post)
Corporate/Corporatist
Oligarch
Bring people together

Negative, unjustified, months-long repeated slanted propaganda against the Democratic ticket did at least as much damage as "people's pain." Otherwise, people might have realized, in greater numbers than they apparently did, that Trump has FAR less interest in lessening anyone's pain than Hillary did.
