WE CAN STOP TRUMP

Yesterday, for the first time, a Republican Elector publicly declared he will not be voting for Trump!

Christopher Suprun, a firefighter who was one of the first responders at the Pentagon on 9-11, wrote an op-ed in the NY TIMES declaring his intent.

Our thanks to Mr. Suprun for his courage and patriotism!

This is a dramatic breakthrough. Our country will never think of the Electoral College in the same way, and you helped make it possible!

Now, it’s time to redouble our efforts. Our strategy is working and it will work even better now that there is a breach in the wall.

There is simply no realistic path to Trump not becoming president. First, while a handful of electors may choose not to cast their votes for him, the likelihood that a sufficient number will do so to deny him a majority is highly unlikely. Second, even if enough electors refused to cast their votes for him, it is even less likely that they'd cast their votes for Clinton -- they'll cast their votes for someone else -- probably Pence or Romney. Third, if there is a rebellion where no one has a majority, the election goes to Congress, where the choice is limited to one of the top three recipients of electoral votes. Under the scenario described, that would probably be Trump, Clinton and Pence (or Romney) in that order. If the third highest electoral vote went to Pence, he will unquestionably urge Congress to select Trump. And they will honor that decision rather than put their own political futures at risk. If Romney was the third highest vote getter, it would be more interesting, but in the end, I don't see the republican members throwing over Trump for Romney.

2. Not to mention

that Congress can just object to and then vote to toss the faithless votes completely, then just have a straight Clinton v. Trump vote in the House.

3. To have any credibility at all with their opposition,

they have to swallow their partisanship and pride and vote for popular vote winner, Hillary Clinton.

Talking about somebody like John Kasich doesn't address the issue satisfactorily.
