It continues: Stricter voter identification law passes House ( Michigan)

Wednesday night as both a way to ensure the integrity of elections is upheld and a means to erect barriers for vulnerable and minority voters.

But in the end, Republicans who sponsored and supported the bills making voter identification laws more stringent, won the day, approving the main bill in the package on mostly party line votes of 57-50. Five Republicans joined all the Democrats in opposing the bill.

“This protects the integrity of every legal citizens’ right to vote and to make sure the fraudulent votes aren’t cast,” said state Rep. Gary Glenn, R-Midland. “It seems to be a common sense requirement.”


State Rep. Lisa Lyons, R-Alto, the sponsor of the bill said in every day life, people have to show their identification for the simplest of tasks and they should do the same for voting.


"This legislation is simple: in order to have your vote count, you have to prove that you are who you say you are," she said. "The legislation perseveres the integrity of our elections and will deter and detect fraud."

Democrats, though, said the bill will disenfranchise minorities, the disabled, homeless people and other vulnerable citizens, who will most likely be unable to vote if the law passes.

1. Why don't we just do a drive to get

ID for the disabled, minorities, homeless people and other vulnerable citizens? They are going to need them more and more and they are entitled to them. Most states likely have IDs for people who don't drive, I know we do. The DMV issues them just as an ID and they look like driver's licenses.

This is where the dems need to start their effort. Arm the people for the battle. If the repubs are going to seek to control the ballot, be ballot ready. Stop talking about why we lost and get to work.

3. True but can be expensive. Many poorer people won't have the utility stubs or cash to pay for them.

If the ID is required, it should be free and fairly simple to obtain.

look how easily Jill Stein got all that money. Crowd fund to pay for IDs for people. Now as to what it takes to prove your address, we could get them on mailing lists perhaps, depends on the state, but it could be done. There has to be at least a lease for people where they live, right? Then the homeless are another problem, but some way should be provided to show they are in the area.

make sure folks have the funds needed to get the PROOF of IDENTITY they need to get IDs. We need a campaign that focuses on getting what the law requires and then we get people registered and to the polls for EVERY ELECTION!

This is about black people taking care of black people, making sure every black person has the means to register to vote, registers and then votes. I expect Latino, Asian, Muslims, and Jews to do the same thing.

We need to be focused, purposeful, strategic with our eyes on the prize which is restoring our Democratic Republic that was overthrown on October 28, 2016.

It seems better the just yakking how unfair it is. Most states have ids that are free so it may just take getting transportation to some who need it.

And get them to go over the rolls (but they only do this in blue areas - often targeting POC. They look for any and every reason to drop people of the rolls. They are so sloppy about it because they cast a wide net. They were stopped by getting sued this year in Florida and NC I believe... the judges saw it was a last minute thing designed to strip people of their voting rights.
One group actually sent mailers, and counted those that came back as evidence the person did not reside there.
Others looked for the same name twice or the same name as someone who was incarcerated. Also people who had not voted in a few years could be purged- but again they did it at the last minute, so they could not get back in the rolls.
Did you know that in towns with large prisons they let them count prisoners as citizens, but don't allow them to vote? The GOP exploits every angle.
