Chuck Schumer D-NY was a guest on this show. He said the only way to deal with these 70-80 hard right Republicans is not to negotiate with them. He said they needed to be isolated with their positions and left swinging in the wind. (my words)

1. The fat Hastert Rule

is the issue figuratively and literally.

Any speaker is going to be differential to his or her party in what they put up.

But, the "fiscal cliff" bill is the first time in two decades that I can remember the republican's putting something to a vote that their caucus alone could not carry.

Rs have a dogma right now where they are near completely united. It would be a problem minus the Hastert Rule, but if Boehner or whoever sticks to it, there is not much that can get done.

2. I think Boehner has no dignity to lose

I've always been one to have the enemy not lose face. Not this time. He's showing he has no dignity in these last few days. Why try to give him what he doesn't possess.
