01/17/2013
WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton would lead Florida politicians Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio among Sunshine State voters in the next presidential election, according to a new survey from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, which called her "a force to contend with" in 2016.
Clinton, who enjoys wide support nationally, took 49 percent to former Republican Gov. Bush's 44 percent, and 50 percent to Republican Sen. Rubio's 46 percent in the poll. Voters were asked to consider potential matchups in the 2016 presidential race.
The secretary of state was also the overwhelming favorite in a hypothetical Democratic presidential primary in Florida, taking 65 percent in a field of nine possible candidates. She was trailed, distantly, by Vice President Joe Biden, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

(56,828 posts)but, did Rubio do anything beyond the normal Republican anti-woman agenda to be called a sexist jerk?
HockeyMom

(11,464 posts)with Bill's campaigning, and President Obama's strong support, Hillary can win
Arkansas, KT, Tenn, GA, SC and well, we can dream,(especially if Castro becomes Governor), Texas, led by women and the demographic shift raw numbers.
Florida, with Democrat now, Gov. Charlie Crist back in office, should be takeable against either.
But Rubio won't even run if Jeb does.
imho.

(44,173 posts)Because the Secretary of State office is appointed in that state by the governor. Crist can appoint a SOS who will stop the shenanigans and extend early voting.

(4,551 posts)And I think one of the reasons Hillary is on top in the polls and so popular with Democrats as the #1 2016 choice is because there's a sense that she probably deserves it more than in 2008.
She has now been Secretary of State for 4 years and has put in more time than she had when she first ran. She has 'paid her dues', so to speak. She joined the cabinet of her rival and has been a loyal member. She will also be standing up for the Administration again next week when she testifies on Benghazi. People like Sen. Rand Paul are already pledging to try and destroy her.

(1,044 posts)ever proves anything. It's a measure of where people stand today. I see no reason to get worked up over It.
If you think it deserves no attention, don't give it any. Easy-peasy.

(12,778 posts)no one has announced they are running and Obama hasn't even started his second term.
RudynJack
(1,044 posts)And nobody said anybody announced. I'm pointing out that all polls only measure what the public feels at any point. This poll doesn't claim who's going to win (or even run) four years from now. It is what it is - and you seem bothered by it.
You shouldn't be. Nobody has claimed it means more than it does. But it shouldn't be surprising that a political discussion board would discuss a political poll.
I suspect you don't like the results, and that causes your tsuris. But stay calm. As a predictive tool, the poll is exactly as meaningless as you think. The problem, on your part, is acting as if the poll IS predictive.

(30,247 posts)Hillary was a good candidate who received more votes from registered Democrats than Obama (some were open primaries). Although I do agree that the campaign itself could have been run better.

(3,003 posts)Still, a lot can change between now and 2016. I'm concerned about Hillary's health, plus the fact she'll be 68 in 2016--almost as old as Reagan was when he first took office. Would she be able to handle the job? Would she be healthy enough to run for re-election in 2020?
Beacool
(30,247 posts)Ditto for Rand Paul. They want to run for president and fear her popularity. As for Jeb, it will be a long time before the nation is ready to see another Bush run for president. He can thank his brother for that.

(753 posts)I dream of the day a Hispanic achieves the office of the President. But I would not want Rubio to run for office, not because I don't agree w/ his agenda, but because I feel they would use him to simply pander to hispanics. Very upsetting.
On a side note, here in Texas the GOP is already doing all they can to tarnish the Castro brothers. Many feel Julian Castro could be our next governor, perhaps not in the next election, but in the one after. The Gop would hate for a solid red-state to have a Dem governor, not mention a hispanic one.

(175 posts)I hope Hillary keeps her lead, and is the NEXT president of the United States!!
However, it does make me nervous that she has a lead so early, usually not good for the person with an early lead, too much of a target.
I've always been an Obama supporter, but I love Hillary as well, and am thankful for what Bill Clinton did for Obama this past election, and hope that, we all will be there to push Hillary across the finish line when the time comes.
She will need all our help because, " Republicans be CRAZY" especially when it comes to the Clintons.

(25,592 posts)Hillary is far enough Right of Center to be a Democratic front runner - if she were to run. But she has indicated she is not interested in running. That information was sucked down the memory hole before the last election.
She will be 70 in 2016. A bit old for the job, don't you think? Plus she already knows what the Presidency actually entails. So why would she want more stress from running, let alone the job itself?
