2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBeen feeling kinda down since the prognostications
about the health care arguments of the other week... upcoming elections / voter suppression issues.
I'm comforting myself with the thought that - no matter what happens:
THE MOVEMENT GOES ON!
Right, guys?

(24,396 posts)If we give up, they win (by default). We must not allow that IMHO. Overturning ACA will likely galvanize the health care reform effort in favor of something better and we know the Republicans don't have any plans for health care reform that will do what needs to be done. I have a feeling that it's going to be an either-or decision, when you get right down to it, there are so many pieces to ACA that it's going to be impossible for the Justices to narrow down which parts are constitutional and which aren't and which ones are tied to the mandate and which ones are not, etc. that they're either going to dump all of it or none of it in the end and, frankly, I'm not sure that Roberts wants that on his legacy without a extremely solid constitutional argument against it IMHO.

(3 posts)Did we really expect a bill that did not have one republican and does not have the support of most americans to be a "winner" for us. We need to get a clue and pick fights we can win. We fight energy, the budget, the role of govenment, the illegal population, health care, and it goes on and on and on........
I think we have lost as a party the idea of what is best for our country. It appears that if you make up a percentage of minority in our party you think you have a 80% say. We need to let issues that effect us that we can negotiate and reach agreement with work. I would not be supprised if Republicans win both the house and senate next time around.
If they do, they could change the supermajority rule, pass laws and override veto's of the president. It just seems to me that the primary rule of the party today is ....lets fight every battle. From that idiot Al Sharpton to intimidating the US Supreme Court, we are a party of in your face with little to do but yell. I for one am tired of the loud mouthed people who think I should pay for their bad decision making. Its time to do whats right for the country, not for a few in our party.

(32,017 posts)you are not on the same side as me. "It's time to do whats right for the country, not for a few in our party" ... right-o mate. Why don't you give us your ideas on what's "right for the country"? What exactly would you like to do regarding energy, banks, health care (in all cases I personally would nationalize all 3). How would you address social security and medicare?
And "that idiot" Al Sharpton? Really?
