Chris Wallace: I Also Would’ve Asked The ‘Open Marriage’ Question First

Studio B guest host Trace Gallagher talked with Fox News Sunday’s Chris Wallace and asked him about CNN’s John King‘s controversial opening debate question on Newt Gingrich‘s “open marriage” scandal. “Yeah, I would have!” Wallace exclaimed.

“I think it was the elephant in the room, if you will, everybody was talking about it, it was the one big news development since the previous Fox debate on Monday. I might have phrased it differently than John King but I thought it was fine to ask,” Wallace continued. “And look, it didn’t either help or hurt asking the question, the fact is that Newt Gingrich gave a very strong answer, the crowd cheered him and in fact, after the debate, Newt Gingrich himself said that he thought John King had done a good job. Our job as the moderators is not to be popular and not to win praise from the crowd but to ask the questions that are going to make news and that one did.”

If he didnt ask it there would have a controversy about why he didnt. Perhaps though the question should have been reworded.. something like this.

"To start off tonight I feel we need to give Mr Gingrich the opportunity to respond to the major story in the news concerning his ex-wife. Mr Gingrinch do you care to respond? If not we will move on to other topics."

However, I suspect Newt would have responded in the same way.
