few years. He got out because you just couldn't have a personal life. If you were not on a specific protective detail you alternated from doing temporary protective details (for example for a visiting dignitary) and investigative work. Because of the overturn in agents, an agent never knew when he/she would be called upon for protective detail. As a result, he couldn't really plan on any activities in his personal life because he could be called away on a moment's notice.
