UPDATE - REID: FILIBUSTER REFORM IN 36 HOURS

UPDATE: 3:11 p.m. -- The Senate will reform the filibuster within the next day and a half -- whether Republicans go along or not, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Tuesday afternoon.

"I hope that within the next 24 to 36 hours we can get something we agree on. If not, we're going to move forward on what I think needs to be done," Reid told reporters. "The caucus will support me on that," he added.

Harry Reid Vows Filibuster Reform Is At The Top Of New Congress Agenda

The senator warned that the changes may not happen immediately. HuffPost’s Michael McAuliff notes, “Normally, rule changes are made on the first day of a new session, but Reid has kept that ‘first day’ alive through the technicality of not adjourning the Senate.” Because of this, Reid can use the “constitutional option” to change the Senate rules with a simple majority vote, instead of two-thirds majority.

Reid said he expected the “discussion” on Senate rules to happen “later this month.”

“I’m hopeful and cautiously optimistic that the Republican leader and I will reach an agreement that allows the Senate to operate more effectively,” he added.

6. And McConnell's response

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), however, may disagree. McConnell thought Congress itself may be the problem, not the rules: “The Senate isn’t functioning as it should. And it has nothing to do with a process that has served us well for a very long time. But if we work together and strive to avoid some of the bad habits we’ve developed around here, I believe we’ll be able to achieve the solutions that have eluded us for the past four years and develop positive results for the people who sent us here.”

Of course Congress may be the problem. The problem occurs when Republicans obstruct. They are the problem. His primary goal was to defeat Obama at any cost. Which makes him the primary problem on why Congress doesn't work.

then perhaps reform might not be necessary.

But they have, and it is.

People need to stop being in denial about how the GOP rolls.

They lie about everything no matter how small.

They cannot be trusted; too much is at stake right now.

Merkley is one my senators and he's a good guy. We need the two senators from California on board to even have a shot at it. If they say no, it's dead in the water.

We don't need them. We can't trust them

Anything more relinquishing on this watered down version would be to do absolutely nothing. He should'a stuck to his guns and made'em get up and talk.
