Statement by the President on International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On January 27th, International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we honor the memories of the 6 million Jews and millions of other innocent victims whose lives were tragically taken during the Holocaust over sixty years ago. Those who experienced the horrors of the cattle cars, ghettos, and concentration camps have witnessed humanity at its very worst and know too well the pain of losing loved ones to senseless violence.

But while this is a time for mourning and reflection, it is also the time for action. On this day, we recall the courage, spirit, and determination of those who heroically resisted the Nazis, exemplifying the very best of humanity. And like these courageous individuals, we must commit ourselves to resisting hate and persecution in all its forms. The United States, along with the international community, resolves to stand in the way of any tyrant or dictator who commits crimes against humanity, and stay true to the principle of “Never Again.”

By remaining vigilant against those who seek to perpetrate violence and murder, we honor those we lost during one of the darkest periods in human history. And we keep their memory alive for generations to come.

1. Thank you President Obama. Please keep us safe so indeed Never Again is Never.

As a Jewish person myself, and as the son of a mother who was driven as a girl from Austria making a treacherous journey through the mountain with my grandparents and other relatives taking many long months til finally reaching Ellis Island and NYC.
And rememberance for my grandfathers brother, who did not make the trip, and one who indeed had a gun and used it on himself as he did not wish to have to lose everything and start again.
Wish I had known him.

Please keep waging the battle against those that wish to make people forget the NEVER AGAIN.
For they are here in this country and elsewhere, and they would in a second do it agian if they achieved any more power than they already have.(talking about the NeoNazis and terrorist movement).

Oh, if only they had drones back then, and Hitler could have been stopped two days before
he took the first person away and before the first of 20 million people had died because of his actions.

IMHO, 20 million people would have been saved.Including 6 million Jews.
Would then have been able to have known my Great Uncle.

Though they have been gone now 40 plus years,I can safely say with great accuracy, that my grandparents both would have voted for President Obama twice and been very pleased with all he so far has done, and all he will accomplish in the next four years.
