Romney, who tells voters on the campaign trail that he believes "we have all the laws we need" in regard to gun control, revealed for the first time just over a month ago that he owns two shotguns. When asked about his stance on gun control during a town hall meeting in Columbus, Ohio, in February, Romney said, "I believe in the second amendment, I'll protect the second amendment. I have guns myself."...
The admission came after years of varied remarks on his own hunting experience.
During a virtual debate with the Boston Globe in 2007 Romney was corrected when he claimed to own a gun that he later clarified actually belonged to one of his five sons.
"I have a gun of my own. I go hunting myself. I'm a member of the NRA and believe firmly in the right to bear arms," said Romney, to which the interview corrected him, "Ah, excuse me, but isn't that son Josh's gun?"
Question: Is there room on the roof of his car for both a dog and a gun rack?

(34,857 posts)I believe in the second amendment, Ill protect the second amendment, I have guns myself, Romney said today at the town hall meeting at Capital University. Not going to tell you where they are. Dont have them on myself either, alright.
But in 2007 after Romney claimed that he did have guns he later retracted his statement, saying that he himself does not have guns but his sons do.

He then comes into gun ownership four years later as he prepares to run for president again.
What a coincidence!

(17,493 posts)I have absolutely no problem with his owning firearms or hunting as long as it isn't for a photo shoot. I own firearms and enjoy target shooting handguns and also have a Florida Concealed Weapons Permit. I also would have no problem with a politician that didn't own firearms or hunt.
I do have a major problem with politicians who pander to those like me for political gain. Often out of touch politicians feel that all gun owners fit the stereotype of illiterate beer drinking rednecks and are easily fooled. Gun owners and those who enjoy the shooting sports represent a broad cross section of our society and a very high percentage are well educated and hold professional jobs.
If Romney expects that merely because he claims he owns firearms or hunts "small varmints" or occasionally "elks and pheasants" that all gun owners will rush out to the polls to vote for him, he is sadly mistaken. Obama has proven himself to be not all that anti-gun during his time in office. In fact he has been far from it, and I don't remember his ever claiming to own a firearm or to hunt. Conservative propaganda might try to convince those like me that Obama will totally change in his second term and support draconian gun laws. Somehow I doubt it.
Obama has been extremely fair in his approach to gun control. Why should I trust a politician who talks out of both sides of his mouth on every issue to be reasonable on the issue of firearms in our society. Romney will say anything to be elected President and he hopes to buy the office with all his money. I don't trust him any further than I could throw him and since I am in poor physical condition as I am a candidate for a hip replacement, suffer from degenerative disc disease and am overweight and in poor physical condition that is not very far.

(53,061 posts)"I'm not a big game hunter. I've always been, if you will, a rodent and rabbit hunter all right, small varmints if you will," Romney said.
". . small varmints if you will".
The "if you will" juxtapositioned against "small varmints" just made it "marvelous".

Confusing himself for his son is just an example of the fact the guy seems to be severely trippin' at all times.
