Looks like Gavin Newsome is running.

Just watched him on Bill Maher show. First comment he made was clearly a stump speech, he did same on Stewart and Colbert last week or 2.
Sadly, the guy has a checkered personal past.
but, should be interesting to watch his efforts.

For what it's worth, he has powerful allies in that can iron out some of his past, but he will still take some heat for some of his indiscretions.

And he's been talking like that almost as long.

Maybe he plans to run for senator but those seats aren't open for a long time. Boxer's term expires in 2016 (he'd never beat her in a primary anyway) and Feinstein's in 2018. Feinstein will be 114 by then so she probably (hopefully) will give it up but that's still a long time to wait for a guy as ambitious as Newsome.

She is currently the second oldest U.S. Senator in The Senate.

U.S. Senators listed by age here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_United_States_Senators_by_age

Edited to add...

At the moment of the top ten oldest senators 7 are Republicans.
Hopefully some of them will retire soon

So the fact he is making appearances on the national stage seems meaningful.

If he hadn't done it gays would still not have the right to marry or to be openly gay in the military. Yeah, the Mormons in Utah managed to have it repealed in California but it started a movement across this country that is going in the right direction and can't be stopped. He took a huge political chance just to do the right thing. I admire that.

If he can survive, Gavin can survive his little extra marital peccadillo from long ago

Maybe Newsome has not screwed around ENOUGH for the "new morality" we seem to be living in.
